Hi, I've been having sever painful headaches for roughly 2 weeks could be more though. It doesn't have a starting point ie behind my eye(s).... it makes it's way to the base of my skull where my neck is. Headache tablets don't work and if I'm lying down when it happens I can't move my head as its excruciating. My eyesight went a bit funny tonight. I've been lying in a darken room for 2 hours. I wear glasses and these are new this year so it's not my eyesight. Does anyone know what it can be. I've googled headaches and its came up tension headaches or clusters. I'm not prone to headaches so I'm taking bad real bad tbh

my advice to you would be drink lots of water- stay in a coolish room (I know when I get headaches, heat is usually involved)

if you have to lie down, try and lie on something soft or get something soft you can use to cover the pain

hope these pass for you. headaches are horrible

Maybe see a Dr?

2 weeks is a long time. It could be any number of things including migraine (You mentioned your eyesight went funny). It's a good idea to get your blood pressure checked too.

When lying in bed my head is killing me even trying to lift it off the pillow is excruciating. Nothing is helping as my room is cool and dark as I have darkened blinds, pain relief not helping, staying off technology isn't helping either. I feel horrendous. I won't get an appt with a GP for weeks as this is normal here. It's a nightmare

If this hasn't stopped for weeks and is so intense it might be a good idea to go to A&E. Make sure to tell them you do not usually get headaches and how intense the pain is.

Yes, I am sorry to push you to a doctor but I was getting severe headaches and only a doctor can really help you if they arent letting up. It can be a sign of so many things. Yes, migraines or cluster or tension headaches but also narcolepsy, sleep apnea, vertigo, other things too. Best to see a doc on this one, especially if OTC meds arent helping.

I have finally made an appt to see a GP... however I can't get one until 23rd I know it's not too long away but it's long enough. They are becoming a little more prominent and really painful. I'm having to put up with them as painkillers don't help at all nor does lying in a dark room etc

Have you tried taking over the counter sinus and allergy combo medication?

I get your kind of headaches and those pills relieve mine.

Even if they help do see a Doctor about it.

Gentle hugs

Hey Christina,

No never tried that I don't really like taking over the counter meds. It's hard enough for me to take my meds for my head let alone for a headache lol. I struggle taking meds big style

Hey guys,

Long story I will try and speed it up though

GP appt on 23rd waste of time. She hadn't read my notes. I had to tell her what the out of hours GP said and that I needed an x ray, bloods took and my blood pressure checked as it was so high. Her words no joke were you don't need your BP took today it was checked on Sun. I said no and was forceful so she took it and surprise surprise twice different readings twice high. She literally took a 2 sec exam of my neck not skull or forehead just neck and declared it to be a "muscle spasm and or inflammation". End of. Not amused

I was now suffering from flu like symptoms and have been bed ridden since Thurs until Wed. By Wed (29th) I was in excruciating pain. Long story but got an emergency GP appt for 10am. Got there and BP checked again and this time it was VERY high I'm no doctor but it was 196/123 WTF I'm in massive danger. She sends me to the local hospital the main hospital in my city. With a note from her and a list of my GP records.

Fast forward to 11:45am when I started getting work done to me. I was given the full works from the nurses and doctor there. I was given millions of BP checks, blood took, ECG, temperature and heart rate took continuously, urine dip twice, BP checked standing, sitting and lying down. I was given a physical by the doctor. I was told I now need after being at the hospital for 4 and a half hours I needed a CT scan of my brain. Hour later I was whisked away. CT is quick about 10 mins. Back to ward. Then a further 1.5 hours later I'm in a room with the doctor who informs me I now need an MRI scan of my head as the CT scan has shown up a small lesion on my brain. WTF!! I'm to get the MRI as an outpatient so still awaiting the appt unsure when it will be. Also if this is inconclusive I will need a lumbar puncture and then a meeting with a Neurologist. They need to know what us causing the headache, the skull pain, the neck pain, the back pain and why the hell my BP is so high

BP ranged from 179-201 ALL day this is the top number not the bottom. I personally thought I was going to be kept in at least over night purely for the fact I was the only patient in the ward everyone had been and gone.

I was sent home with Codeine and Paracetamol added into the mix I was given Narproxen and Lansoprazole from my GP on Thursday. I had to call my GP surgery today (Fri) and get not ask get a BP home monitoring machine which is a 24 hour machine. Only time I can get one is on Mon at 2:40pm. I need this as I'm seeing the nurse on Thurs 6th for my blood pressure so the doctor at the hospital wanted this to compare readings. I also have to keep my GP appt on Mon 10th so he can review me and again take a urine dip.

The overall outcome is there is a possibility I have pressure on my brain which is causing all of this but until everything is done and ruled out we don't actually know. I'm a mystery to the doctors as my case isn't straightforward

So much for it all to be muscle spasms and or inflammation. So much for her not wanting to check my BP. So much for my GP phone call on Wed just reiterating what the originally GP said. GP on phone fave ne 2 options come in and collected a prescription for Codeine (without seeing a doctor) or come in, in 1.5 hours time to see the same GP I saw on Thurs. I made the right choice. I'm not dramatising this I could be dead as high this high BP leads to heart attack, stroke, kidney failure. So do I complain to the surgery about the lack of care I have received?

Oh holy carp. You really are going through some serious stuff right now miss L. Hugs to you, that must have been so scary and so painful too.

I am so glad you eventually got a proper investigation at the hospital and that they seem to have found an answer for the symptoms you have.

I guess it's all hanging on the mri and possible lumbar puncture. I hope you don't have to wait much longer for this.

The BP. Wow that is astronomically high, no wonder you are scared. I am not a medic but I am wondering should they give you meds to reduce it? Or is there a reason they aren't?

Keep on hanging on in there! You did a good job keep on going back when you knew this just wasn't right. Yes maybe you can complain about the treatment but maybe when this is all sorted and you are feeling better?
Thanks for this!

So the doctor at the hospital wanted me to get a blood pressure home tester machine so I have an appt for the nurse on Monday (3rd) for this. I am again back at the nurse on 6th for a blood pressure check as per my GP request from last Thurs. I'm then back to see a different hopefully better GP on 10th to review everything and hopefully can put my mind at ease.

I will talk to him about meds as no-one has said meds to me other than the out of hours GP on 19th.

Although I'm glad I'm being listened to finally I'm really upset and scared. All I did last night was cry as my mind is literally like WTF and could i die? I know i might be a drama queen here but this is completely new territory for me no-one i know has had this. I'm laughing, joking about it all but I'm really upset

No you aren't being a drama queen, not at all, it must be scary not knowing yet what is going to happen.

Keep taking care of you (your mental wellbeing is important too!) and doing what you can to get through this time. If it helps to post here then post, we are here for you.

Hugs!

Ugh! Still really feeling ill (stinker of a sore head its blinding, sore eyes, dizziness, feeling sick) I've been like this since Wed so it's nothing new. Nothing is helping with it. Only good thing is the fact I can physically turn my neck albeit a bit sore but massively has improved. My thumb still has constant pins and needles.

Was at the nurse today to get a BP home machine. My BP when took just before 3pm was (168/116 and 179/118) the nurse asked if I wanted to stay and see a GP but i had another appt i was actually late for cause she took me 15 mins late. I have this for the week and she has cancelled my appt with her on 6th so I just need to go to my see my GP on 10th. Any problems at all and if my BP is higher tomorrow call in.

Tomorrow is my Birthday and I have plans so not exactly wanting to ruin the day as my Twin and I are doing stuff.

Hey no still awaiting MRI. It could be anything up to 3 months away. I have to attend my GP surgery weekly to get my blood pressure checked. My GP has started me on a blood pressure tablet and has upped Propanol which I take for anxiety as it works for blood pressure too. I still have pins and needles in my 4 fingers and all my left toes. I still have dizziness and nausea. I still am lightheaded but its died right down. I have very little neck pain thankfully too. Overall much better lol
