Okay so I thought I just had a nasty bruise. I'm anemic and fair so I bruise ALOT but this one was different it didn't get dark it is red and warm to the touch and very painful so I went to the ER and it is gout. I have looked into it and I find it odd, I am a 22 year old female in good health and of a healthy weight and I have freaking gout! Does any one out there have it also? I would like to know more about it and what I can do to relieve this pain and keep these attacks @ bay. Thanks and hope to hear something soon.

This link may help.

My dad gets gout often. He has to follow a special diet. He must avoid organ meats, red meat, seafood, and some others. He also says drinking cherry juice helps.

I don't know anything about gout, but I was going to suggest you search the mayoclinic site. Twirls beat me to it. I hope you feel a lot better very soon.

Hugs,

Jan

I have been eating TONS of pickled sausage and beef sticks along w/ all the usual Christmas goodies ie cake, cookies, chocolate etc. I don't drink so I am sure my love of pickled beef hearts is the major cause of my gout. Thanks every one I will get some cherries and cherry juice. If anyone else has any helpful tips I am open to them. Thanks again. GirlN

IMO you really need to treat this with meds, as gout can worsen and cause all sorts of problems. gout

It used to be thought of as an ailment of the wealthy, the royals. Since it is (or was?) thought to be caused by eating rich foods, just like we do at the holidays.

It is very tender and painful! I hope you're feeling better with each day.

the best way to treat is with the anti-inflamatory, just take it as the Dr. says , doesn't mean you need meds forever only when you have flair ups

Here is a link I just found and have taken the Naproxin and half a glass of water with 1/2 of baking soda. I'll let you know if it works. gout

I don't believe you can CURE gout, but if it stops the pain, I'm all for it!!

Yep! It worked within 15 minutes! I was finally able to get some sleep. It didn't start hurting again until I got up and bumped my toe. gout It's settled down again.

CAUTION! Go really easy on the baking soda if you have high blood pressure! It raises it.

Thanks, Bethy! I was desperate last night, though. Two Tramadol didn't even begin to touch the pain! I was laying in bed moaning and groaning then it hit me. The only other time I did that was when my labor was induced to have David! Oh, yeah! When I got my first dose of cellulitis, too! I realized then that something was very wrong!

I can actually see the difference in the swelling this morning. It's gone down quite a bit.

Golly, but that stuff HURTS!!! gout gout

I'm calling my dr in the am to tell her about it, see what she prescribes. Promise! gout

Different things cause gout attacks in different people and one should see a doctor and be diagnosed and prescribed what will help with their individual cause of gout.

Gout has been much better. I found black cherry juice (organic 100%) and elevating my foot helped it a lot. Bananas also were a great help. Septembermorn I do hope your gout eases up.

Yep! Dr prescribed colchicene! My whole foot is swelling and only goes does some during the night. The colchicene doesn't seem to be doing much for that and neither are my water pills, though. gout

It took almost 2 weeks for my pain to lessen enough for me to put shoes on and walk around. (most of the time i wore slippers and used a wheel chair) I hope your meds help eventually. Have you tried soaking your tootsies in warm water w/ epsom salt and a dash of essential oil? That was a comfort for me. ((((Perna)))) hope you feel better. N.
