Its been hurting for a few days. The area around it is really red and swollen. Now it hurts to walk on that foot and it just hurts in general. I know I probably should go to immediate care. I don't feel sick or anything like I have an infection.

I'm just being stubborn I guess.

If it’s just a little localised infection sometimes soaking it in a salt water dish of warm water can sort it. If it doesn’t or it spreads I’d see the Dr.
Thanks for this!

I haven't had many ingrown toenails but when I have, the problem has turned out to be how the corner of the nail ended up shaped after I last cut it.

For me the ideal shape of the corner can be either rounded or square, as long as it's far enough out so that only the (straight) side is touching any skin or flesh. The worst shape is when I think I've cut the whole nail but I've actually left a "spur" at the corner that can dig in and eventually ingrow.

I thought I was doing a pretty good job cutting my toenails until a few months ago. When one of the corners started hurting and acting ingrown, I discovered I'd accidentally left a spur. A few days after I clipped the spur off, everything felt back to normal.
Thanks for this!

I soaked it in pretty hot water about an hour ago. And now my entire toe is swollen and the area around it is really red and puffy and even if my other foot brushes up agaisnt it it causes intense pain.

So I guess I have to go to immediate care tommorow.
