I might have to have an op on my spine & hips as I have scoloiosis & I was wondering if anyone else has had this op done & could give me some info on what they would do & how big the scar would be.

Thanks Pat

I am very sure that I will have to have it done as I was offered it about 10 years ago but it was only a 50% chance that it would work & the other 50% I would end up in a wheelchair & as & was not 20 yrs at that time I felt that this was not an option at that time but now I have spoken about it with my husband & children & we feel that if it was to go wrong & I was to end up in a wheelchair then it would change my life a whole lot but not as much as it would have done 10 yrs ago.

I don't have any experience with it, either, but I want to send you hugs and I've said a prayer for you. Please do let us know what happens.

Hugs,

Jan

Sending lots and lots of hugs your way... healing thoughts and prayers too...

The only thing I know about scoleosis was a friend had it... she was very tiny and she had surgery twice.. once when she was young 16 and once when she was in her 30's to insert a metal rod... this surgery was successful for her.. she was able to do pretty much what she wanted - within reason... but I'm not sure if this is what you are talking about.

sincerely.. freewill

Trust the process and do what the doc says - I like it when they don't immediately jump on surgery! Also, surgery has come a long way. I think you said you could have had this 20 years ago? Anyhow as time passes they learn more things and it just gets better.

Good luck!

Tranquility

((((dcs))))) i know what you're going through. although i never had issues with my back, i had issues with my knees. i couldn't do much anything with my knees because they hurt like crazy and the pain relievers didn't do the trick. i had physical therapy twice and they didn't help, but made them worse. i had surgery on my knees 7 years ago, one at a time. i was glad that i was persistent in getting something done on my knees. at first, i was given 50-50 chance of relief as well. i jumped at the chance anyway, since i kept an open mind. i only hoped for a partial improvement. it turned out that i had chondromalacia syndrome pretty bad, and the surgeon said that the surgery would be the only thing that would have helped. sure enough, the surgery went beyond my expectations because not only did it give me my knees back, but i was able to do things i had never been able to do before in my life. yeah, it took physical therapy to relearn how to walk and months of recovery. but, i'm glad i did it. it was so worth it. yeah, i can understand how it is when you're grapping with the chances that something might go wrong, and you're right - you will have less or no pain. i'd go for less pain. for years before the surgery, i walked funny because of my knees. i was limping on both knees! since the surgery, i've been able to walk pretty normally, except my equibrium is a bit off due to equilibrium imbalance. i've never been able to tackle the stairs prior to the surgery. since the surgery, i use the stairs plenty. so, it's pretty cool. i wish you the best for your back....

Hi just an update

my surgen says that he will do my op but I have to get a second opinion on it first as he has sent people with a worse curve than mine to have it done & they have been told that they will not do it but they have had more mobility than I have so things or looking better the only problem at the moment is that my apointment is in sept but they are trying to bring it forward things with my back have got that bad that I can not walk more than a few steps & thats in cronic pain because of my back it is also going in to my neck ear & face as well atm so if my backs not to bad my face ect is really bad and I can not move because of it I am also trying to get dla but they keep telling me there is nothing wrong with me & that I do not kneed it so I am doing it all over again this time I have told them about my back, ed & depresion as well as all the rest & they have written to my surgon as well this time & they have not done that before so fingers crossed I will get it this time op on my spine
