This is the eigth day in a row that I've had a headache. I feel it only in my forehead, kind of like a pressure. It can last hours but stops sometimes too. Yesterday I only had it once for maybe half an hour during the day and thought it was going to stop but then it came back in the evening. Walking in the fresh air doesn't help it either, nor does paracetamol. I've had it for most of the day today. It isn't painful as such, more of an annoying dull ache. I also feel physically tired and far sleepier than usual, a bit nauseous most of the time too. Is this a migraine?

(((((((((( silver queen ))))))))))

I think you need to see your GP as you have had these headaches for 8 days in a row.

I also think you should at least tell your MD (if you haven't.) It sounds like a tension headache. Massaging and/or icing/heating the back of your neck should help if it is tension. Stretching neck and arms etc might help loosen some of the muscles also (but don't stretch your neck backwards towards your back!)
Cut out caffeine, drink more cool water. Try gingerale, as ginger helps with pain. (In any form... chew the root or add ground ginger to meals.)
Hope you find relief soon.

Thanks Pegasus... I'll go when I get up the courage... maybe next Monday or Wednesday if it's not better by then...v

And _sky, Thanks for your advice. I'll try the neck massaging thing, it sounds like fun. I have been taking care to drink enough because I thought the headache might be due to dehydration but it hasn't much worked. I do drink mostly water and usually have only one or two caffeinated drinks a day anyway (tea). And actually I did have some ginger biscuits the other day (do they count? They do contain ginger, I read the ingredients) but I can't say they made much difference... except I enjoyed them lol. Drinking tea doesn't make the headache worse btw.

Could be a weird migraine, but I'd agree on the tension headache, or a cluster headache as well.

Thats a link to a good website with description.

DEFINITELY go to a doctor if its still around by next week. If it gets worse, or your vision blurs or any other bad symptoms - go to the hospital, immediately. Could be something worse than just a bad headache.

Thanks Christina!

I forgot to mention too - that I am finding it harder to swallow too. As in I need to put more effort into it, if that makes sense. There is more resistance. Maybe that relates to tension, idk.

sounds like an anxiety headache, especially as it is combined with difficulty swallowing,

but go have your thyroid levels checked (we know we are a bore on this subject)

Sky's advice is all good
& please don't make us plead with you to go to the GP this time

Well, my headache seems a bit better today so far, I have a bit of pain but not as much but it feels like the headache is just lurking around the corner, if that makes sense. I have had episodes of headache today but not for long. I still feel nauseous and tired though but hopeful that maybe things might start improving now.

I tried Sky's suggestion of neck massage several times but it didn't work. Having a hot shower made no difference either - the headache continued during and for hours after the shower. Possibly ibuprofen might make a difference, I'm not sure. Last time I took it I had the headache for 2hrs after I took the tablets but then the headache went but I'm not sure if the ibuprofen made any difference, so I'm going to try it again today. Paracetamol didn't have any effect and I don't want to try aspirin.

Zorah, why should I get thyroid levels checked? Can it be done just in the surgery?

I saw the dr this morning.

He didn't really know what was wrong, and admitted he was baffled, he actually said that. My pulse and blood pressure were high and that led him to think the headaches might be from high blood pressure, but since I've had exactly the same happen several times when visiting a dr or a hospital (heart rate 140 bpm) I wasn't too worried. Besides, I was asked yesterday or day before to measure my heart rate when I was calm at home, and it was only 68 then. And my headache isn't throbbing at all and I think it is when due to high blood pressure.

So... he concluded it might be due to a viral infection, and prescribed anti-biotics. However I'd forgotten until it was pointed out to me that anti-biotics are of no use against viral infections... . He said to come back in two weeks if I still have the headache then, and then blood tests would be done.

He really did ask me a lot of questions, including trying to go all psychological, asking me how I felt about my friend's bf, and how I feel not having a bf *sigh*. lolol. But he never looked into my eyes though, and I've read that all people presenting with a new kind of headache ought to have their eyes looked at. i couldn't think of any way of tactfully suggesting it so I said nothing. Perhaps it will happen next time if I still have the headache. He did say it isn't a migraine though.

So glad you went to the doctors silver queen.

Hopefully now they can keep an eye on you and find out what's causing it.

I get those type of headaches. The only thing that works for me is taking advil or some generic type and also taking tylenol at the same time. You can mix the two because they are processed in different part of the body. My daughter dr told me that.
