we are tired of so-called "easy to open" packets of food that we can't open
we are tired of getting our meds in "child-proof" bottles we can't open
we are tired of it hurting to type
we are tired of explaining to petrol station attendants that we CAN'T pump up our own tires, or even make the petrol pump go on the bad days
we are tired of dropping things because we keep trying to do what we used to be able to do
how are you supposed to hold a toothbrush ? cook ? idk, everything ?

our left hand has been crippled for 30 years, but has got much worse since we managed to break the wrist in 8 places
both hands have severe problems now, as our arms & hands go completely numb, this is not likely to improve

can anyone help us with this ?

I'd find the rare petrol stations that still have mechanics and make friends with the mechanic so he could make sure your tires were okay, etc. They usually don't charge when they change tires or help, etc. and if you got your car checked out there every 6 months, got your oil changed there, etc. and kind of got to be friends with the mechanic and/or a clerk or two, made it "your" station and they got to know you I'm sure they'd help you!

Or, have a friend meet you at a station near their home to help you? I know we'd all drop anything to come up and help you for 5 minutes Zorah!

I hate the childproof stuff too, have trouble with it. Here in the U.S. we can order "non-childproof" meds if there are no children in the house. I hate having to get into my thyroid med in the dark; it's tiny and I dropped it last night and had to go downstairs and find a flashlight; I had my bottom drawer of my dresser open for my cats (don't ask :-) and was terrified to not find the pill in case one of them ate it. What I hate are the childrens' meds that are adult proof? I take Benadryl flavored strips and you have to cut on the dotted line (and I don't have good scissors upstairs, especially in the bathroom!) but even then, they won't open! Such tiny stuff and my hands are clumsy.

((((((((((((((((((Zorah)))))))))))))) I'm so sorry you are struggling so much. I wish I could help. Having a friend help is a good idea. I hope you are able to get some help with all this soon.

Hi Zorah,

Well I have had some experience with my hands being in pain and not working properly. I use those rubber circles from the dollar store to open lids now. I used to have very strong hands that could open anything. I've dropped & broken things because my hands don't function the way my brain tells them to. Very frustrating. I try to be patient with myself.
My pharmacist knows not to give me those child proof lids on medications. All we can do is learn how to cope. Try different things that work better. I was reading this article today and thought of you. Have a look at it ... called Coping with Chronic Pain (2006) in Psych Central. I tried to upload it as an attachment but it didn't work. I'm still new at this.

Blessings, Claudia

Hi Zorah, I'm like so many here "hear" the frustration and especially the pain you endure every day. I like you also have hand troubles and now can see my hands; though they hurt and have some crippling affects from "rheumatoid arthrits"are mild compared to what you must deal with. Please know we all are aware of the struggles and pains of "physical" conditions. Some choose or have to medicate them away; even if for a few hours. I am trying to "pray" through my pain; and reachout to others, hopeing my sorrow will be lessend. I know your a thoughtful supportive person; Ive seen you in action and know you do care for others as we here; including myself are supporting you at this difficult time. Be assured I am praying that your pain be healed; and if not lessened so you are able to return to your normal daily life.JG.
