Hey all, I know probably no one here is a doctor, but I was just wondering if any one new of any clear cut, inexpensive way (like not with MRIs and lab tests) to find out if physical ailments were due to psychological conditions.

Here's my situation:
When I found out almost a year ago about my mom's terminal cancer, I developed an eye twitch. It appeared to be worse if I had to read, but would occur randomly as well. Then it subsided after a while.

For the last couple of years I have struggled with numbness/tingling in my extremities, especially if I'm sitting for long periods (like an hour), and more recently I've been getting it when I exercise. I also have sort of an electrical prickly feeling on certain portions of my head and this semester the twitching has come back, but is pretty much diffuse across my body and occurs randomly (although my fingers twitch sometimes when I have to do purposeful work with them, like typing). Occasionally I have deep pain (almost like bone pain). Also, over the past couple of years I have had 5 respiratory infections and multiple UTIs (last semester I had a fever that spiked to 103 on two separate occasions).

I know it's kind of random and I don't really expect a diagnosis. I was just wondering if any one else has experienced similar/extreme physical manifestations purely because of a psychological problem.

the eye twitch - definitely . i experience it whenever i get stressed. it's a bloody bugger to put up with!! especially when i'm trying to read stuff for uni. i also find my accuracy with typing goes out the window at times like this.

the numbness/tingling i have put down to have poor blood circulation. if you are small like me, apparently it is a well known problem. my doc has suggested making sure i stay well hydrated and also exercise often. it tends to help.

the deep pain/bone pain thingy - this will sound weird, but (for me at least) it's associated with high humidity. i use it to predict rainfall (no joke). a lot of people have it, but i think it depends on what area you come from and if you share the same genealogy.

sorry if none of this helps - but the eye twitching etc can be explained by stress (just make sure you've also had an eye test though before you dismiss it entirely).

I went through this about twenty years ago when my daughter was born with a seizure disorder that left her 100% handicap and the only way my doctor was able to deem my physical complaints at the time a psychological condition and not a medical problem was from talking to me and running a few test that all came back clear.

P.S.
You can read about how emotional trauma's in our life can turn into physical / medical problem in this book.

Please get your thyroid function tests done........some of your symptoms sound autoimmunne.........but also sound severe anxiety related which also can be related to autoimmune........

Sorry to confuse and i may be wrong, but i have also had your exact symptoms and now I have more........get some tests done just to be sure.......do not be mislead by normal "blood" results. Pathology testing in this area is not "definitive".

I wish I had done something sooner.........do not put it down to "mental issues" if you truly feel it is not........biggest mistake I ever made......
