Didn't know which forum was appropriate here or Social Chat? OOPS JUST NOW SEE "HEALTH CHAT" shoulda coulda woulda...NEXT TIME

I am 24, have had Acne since I was 8.
Dermatologist told me 2 years ago that if I had gone to see a Dermatologist as a teen the "problem" could have been fixed. But now that I am an adult, I will most likely always have it. So child acne,Teen Acne, young Adult Acne, and now Adult Acne for life! YAY (Sarcasm)

Used to be just the forehead. Than changed to Forehead and T zone. Than had bad acne on my back from about 12-15. I have scars there from it. Acne on face changed to acne on neck and chest. Than I was without it for 2 1/2 years. Ages 18-21. Than it came back full force all over face...really deep ones, chest, back again (AHHH) and my arse! (AHHHH for real!!!)

It doesn't seem to matter if I wear cotton, or shower often or less, or sit in a hot tub. I have started taking NOVO-DOXYLIN (DOXYCYCLINE HYCLATE) 100mg twice a day. But bcuz of my prescription and amount given to me through my medical insurance I can only take one a day. I've been doing this for a few weeks. Really helps my face.

I would like to take the one most prescribed (can't remember name) but it causes depression. Which is something I already have.

Also CANNOT take anything with Salysic Acid, gives me a horrible rash of Deeper Acne. So I cannot take Pro-Active since it is the main ingrdient. Tea Tree Oil, dries out my skin, as what it's supposed to do, I use this only on minor infections (in-grown hairs)

-Trying to drink more water
-Trying to eat healthier
-Trying to get more exercise

I also use a toner (Clinique Clarifying Lotion Pink Bottle) it really digs deep on my face, sometimes back.
Than I have a prescribed Lotion (liquid) DALACIN T (Topical Anti-biotic) that I use on my face at least twice a day after cleansing. Seems to help.
I also have "the pill" but find it doesn't really help with the Acne, maybe if I had Mild Zits or something.
I also take time to Exfoliate all over.

I am really hoping that with time I will get this "problem" nubbed in the butt.

It has def caused me alot of Mental anguish throughout my life, and depression too. I try not to think about the scars, but will have them removed with Dermabrasion, have looked into it some, and will be looking into more.

Wondering who else may have this problem, where their problems are...
How they've dealt with it....
How they are working on dealing with it....
What your ages are when u had/have it.....
What options you have in fixing it, natural or whateves.....

Thanks.

Just a thought - have you tried Proactiv?

It worked wonders for me.

Like it says in my intro, I cannot, because it's main ingredient is the Salysic Acid. Which causes a very bad long lasting rash.

my girlfriend took something like a chemo drug i think and it stopped it dead in it's tracks. she had to go thru some side affects that were difficult but the end result was amazing. she too had suffered so long and was willing to go to any lengths to stop the acne and scarring.
hope things work out for you.

oddly enough the more i thought about this i think she was put on high doses of tetracycline, an antibioitc. since she was on high doses i think it made her feel ill somewhat. i believe she took it for some months...not sure but it wasn't a short time i know. i'd suggest you google it and see if anything pops up. i know one of the side effects was she lost quite a bit of hair but she never had to wear a wig or anything. she continued to work also...at the time it was a new approach to this prob.and some docs said it was not a good approach but it was proven to work. she had facial scars from her acne, etc. and was willing to do whatever worked. it did. let me know if you find out on google and meantime i'm gonna check too. sorry i don't know where she lives anymore or i'd give her a call for u. i'll check back here to see if either of us find out the info.

Dosage

Treatment of bacterial infection is generally for one to two weeks, but tetracyclines may be taken for longer if required.
Patients differ in the amount of tetracycline they need to control inflammatory skin diseases. A full daily dose of tetracycline is generally prescribed for the first few weeks or months to see how well it controls the skin problem. This full dose should be continued for most patients with acne. However, those with rosacea and perioral dermatitis may be able to reduce their dose at approximately monthly intervals.
  • Tetracycline: 250-500mg four times daily
  • Oxytetracycline: 250-500mg four times daily
  • Demeclocycline: 150-300mg twice daily
  • Doxycycline: 50-100mg once or twice daily
  • Lymecycline: 300-600mg once or twice daily
  • Minocycline: 50-100mg once or twice daily
There's a lag period of one to three weeks between the change in dosage and its effect on skin. If the skin problem becomes worse, return to the previous higher dosage and continue on it or as advised by your doctor.****
(((SS))) i noted you are on one of the other forms of tetracycline. i'd ask your doc if you could be put on tetracycline since i know this works. also my gf took this for quite a long time but not more than a year. then she went off it and no more occurances.

Yea Thanks Madisgram, I think she first put me on Minocycline, but it only got worse. I will check into it some more. Yes I have dealt with it for many years, I don't know if I could handle the hair loss though. I guess everyone is different.
