Guess what I've got! I wish I was kidding.

I went in to the doc's when I told my mother that it "hurt to breathe". She said to go to the doctors, so I did. I'm glad I did! Apparently if left longer, I'd have wound up with pneumonia (I had some symptoms, but not most for a diagnosis of pneumonia). I've got chills, no temperature but stuffed up sinuses and phlegm in my lungs ... so I hack a lot. Oh, and the whole hurting to breathe thing. It actually hurts LESS to cough and hack then it does to breathe! Thankfully it was caught before it became pneumonia!

It's a bacterial infection, so I'm on a twice daily antibiotic for 10 days.

I've been on it for 1.5 days now, and I still feel like crap. Actually my throat hurts more today then it hurt before. Now I feel wheezy. Sigh. I wish I could breathe and stopped feeling like I've got the flu! (I even got the flu shot, first time in a long time and I've got THIS!)

Anyone else ever had one of these?

Third day of drugs...

I'm not sure if it's getting worse or not. It seems that it's now just painful in my throat (to talk, eat, breathe, cough) like a regular cold... but the congestion in my sinuses and the stuff in my chest is still there.

Sigh. 7 more days of drugs to go.

I sure have had those symptoms.

When I was 5, I was hospitalized for 3 weeks due to walking pneumonia. My butt was a pin cushion 5 x a day (which is the cause (I believe) for my severe fear of needles today).
It wasn't until about 12 years ago that I began to contract reoccurring pneumonia once a year....almost like clockwork. Had I known that the house I moved into had mold growing within the walls (unable to see on the inside underneath the paint), I more than likely would never had fallen ill again.
I lived in that house (a rental) for almost 7 years without repaint, until the landloard wanted to sell it and we had to move. It wasn't until our moving out that we discovered the mold, due to his crew coming in to repaint and discovering the mold. It's no wonder I kept gettin sick.
That continuous exposure only triggered what seemed to be a weakening of resistance within my lungs and now if I'm not extremely careful, a common cold caught goes straight to my lungs and pnemonia will soon follow.
I don't know if that's how pneumonia works, but I do know that I will fall ill to it if I don't use extra precautions around airbourne viruses.

The pain? Absolutely intolerable! It felt like someone had a crowbar between my ribs attempting to seperate them. When I was first diagnosed with pneumonia (while in that house of mold), the doctor told me that had I gone in a day later, both lungs would have been almost completely filled and a week's hospitalization would have been required. I only had to stay for one day and overnight that time for the treatment of antibiotic through I.V. (UGH...more needles). Laying down only felt like drowning, so I was forced to sleep sitting upward until the majority of the infection was gone.
It was horrible.
Never inhale mold of any kind (if you can help it...lol)..It can and will (if exposed to it long enough), infect the lungs.

Glad to hear that you're getting treated for it before it had turned into pneumonia. The effects of the medicine does take a few days to show improvement. Have a little patience. However, you may want to check into why you're having issues with ur throat. Maybe a reaction to the medication.
For me, with each case of reoccurring pneumonia I contracted, I was issued a stronger anitibiotic..until last year I was on the strongest available to date..others simply didn't work anymore. If you don't show signs of improvement within at most, 3 days, then return for a stronger antibiotic.

Take care!
Shangrala

Well lets see...

Almost time for another dose of meds! (Well, when I get home anyways).

My throat feels raw. Is it because of all my hacking and coughing though I wonder...

My one lung (or at least the area around it) seems to hurt the most. But it still is uncomfortable verging on painful to breathe. Also can't laugh or talk loudly because it hurts too much.

Still hacking a lot... but at least I'm not coughing anything up (or is that a bad thing??)

My nose also is blocked and running and I swear my ears were ringing earlier today. I think I'm going crazy!!

Ugh! I'm sorry you feel so bad!

Can you call the doctor and tell them you are feeling worse instead of better and ask if you should come back in? BEFORE the weekend, when you won't be able to reach them? I think you should...

Take care of you!

Thanks for this!

Well today feels better now. Still uncomfortable but no longer painful. Sort of like having a flu bug now... which apparently could be how I got the infection in the first place (lower immune system = more susceptible to bugs going around, or else my body manufactured the infection!).

Thanks all for your concern.

Hi Christina.
when I first joined a few weeks ago I was having trouble with my posts and you helped me (I appreciated that). I'm sorry to hear you're soooo sick.
I had pneumonia 12yrs. ago- it was one of the hardest things I've gone through. It was so painfull with unbelievable coughing. Besides taking antibiotics until they're finished I also drank fresh ginger tea. Green tea is also great. Buy fresh ginger root - peel and slice thinly and boil for 5 minutes. I also bought one of those magic bags, you know the ones you can heat in the microwave. Put that on your chest-it's soothing.
If you're not completely better after the antibiotics, then go back to the doctor. Mine was so bad that I had to be on inhalers and take a narcotic cough syrup at night because I wouldn't stop coughing. Take care and I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Christina
Can relate to what your going through I just finished all my meds for the same thing you have / had . Plus I had a collapse lung and was passing out because of lack of o2 and coughing like a dog . (not a pretty sight. At least now I can hold my food down but a few weeks ago YUK .
Anyhow Thought I would just add to all the help and support you have gotten by telling you to look out for a secondary infection just when you think your better and stop the meds it takes awhile for everything to clear .
As I can atest because I thought I was over it and had just a tickle in the throat as an after affect but it turns out IT has returned on me . Lucky I have all the drugs left over to fight it again
So when our bodies sort of tell us something is wrong it is probably right
keep well
daggy

Virtual hugs means there's no chance of getting what I've got!

Well, I've been bad about taking my antibiotics. On the upside, I've basically slept away an ENTIRE weekend, so maybe that's good for me. It doesn't hurt anymore to breathe, just to cough or laugh. I still hurt a bit, but oh well.

I think the mucus is deciding to get back at me though, because whenever I think "I haven't coughed in hours" I wind up having a coughing fit!

Thanks for the suggestions and support
