It is doable, but I am concerned about the methods you may use to attain this goal. Please be careful not to endanger your health in this process. The end goal is to make yourself feel better. not inflict pain. The componants of your plan should be as follows.
Diet Low carb and low in saturated fats, reasonable amount of protein( actually needed to keep you satisfied) and fruits and veggies. Stay away from processed meats (deli ham, bologna, hotdogs) if you can, these have a lot of sodium which causes water retention. Moderate amounts of Green Tea also help with metabolism. Exercise: Combine cardio and light weight training. The two kinds of exercise work hand in hand to speed up your metabolism and burn fat and excess carbs. Also yoga and Tai Chi are excellent support exercises. Tai Chi is great for maintaining wellness and energy level, yoga will improve flexability and coordination. Stay away from Fat loss pills, and other gimicks, these are a waste of money and are no substitute for will and discipline. Follow the above and you should find a healthy way to acheive weight loss combined wih good muscle tone and joint health. |

I think Timgt5's diet and exercise is right-on...very sound advice. However, I also think 6 lbs a week is an unattainable/unhealthy goal! In order to lose one pound, a person has to cut and/or burn 3500 calories. 6 lbs is 21000 calories a week...3000 calories a day. The average person consumes between 1500-2000 a day. The highest impact exercise is fast running...running 10 mph burns 944 calories an hour in a person weighing 135 lbs...the calories go up slightly for people weighing more. Thats running 6 minute miles, steadily, for an hour. You would have to do that for over 3 hours a day to burn 3000 calories. Also...you would have to INCREASE calorie intake in order to do this. This is what world-class marathon runners can do...after training for years. After they do this one time, they then take up to a week to recover ( walk normally), and they "carb-load" the week leading up to the marathon. A much more reasonable weight loss goal is 2-3 lbs a week...and this is still considered a bit fast by dieticians and trainers.
One thing you may find though, is that if you weight train, the number on the scale may not change much, but your body will. Muscle weighs more than fat. By building muscle (and losing fat at the same time), you will be healthier, and smaller. Size is more important then the number on a scale. A number is arbitrary...how you look in the mirror and feel in your clothes is more important, don't you think? __________________ ~Just another one of many~ |

You also haven't said what your weight is & how much you want to get down to.......as your goal weight may be unhealthy which is something you need to take into consideration also. I have lost huge amounts of weight & have been hospitalized because of my weight being way to low as I kept passing out........so you need to look at your goal weight & see if it's a healthy weight for your size before trying to loose that many pounds per week. When I got down to 93 lbs.....I was very sick....it wasn't that I had a goal of loosing that much weight.....stress made me feel so sick I couldn't eat as everytime I would try to eat, I would feel so sick to my stomach I couldn't get myself to eat......one horrible way to loose weight.
Just be careful....all the above suggestions are perfectly healthy ways to loose weight & are just healthy ways to live your life continuing after loosing the weight. Best wishes for a healthy life....it will definitely help you feel better about yourself, Debbie __________________ Leo's favorite place was in the passenger seat of my truck. It's not doable if you want to keep it off and would be extremely damaging to your health. In general, women should not eat less than 1200 calories a day or your body will go into "starvation mode" and make it even harder for the weight to be lost and impossible to get the nutrients your body needs. Generally one should only lose 1-2 pounds a week and the less you weigh, the harder that is.
