Anyone else suffer with this and if so what do you find helps? I am drastically changing my diet to try and deal with this.

My husband has problems in this area (he even has a few gall stones) and the best thing for him is to stay away from tomato base meals and sauces, avoid heavy meals (especially deep fried), drink milk in moderation and take his Prilosec Rx every day..... keeping tums on hand for those in between bouts help too.

Doctor told him he may need to have the gall bladder removed if the pain gets any worse or the stones grow.

When an ultrasound showed stones, my doctor said the gall bladder wasn't working. So out it came--easy outpatient surgery. Leaving it in risks infection that can be fatal.

Specific foods, such as fried foods, bothered me greatly one time and not at all another. It was hard to tell what to eat/avoid.

I had mine out about 12 yrs ago. I didn't have stones but more sludge type stuff. I was so sick! I will say this though...my dad was way sicker than I was and he kept putting it off until he just couldn't take it anymore. if you hurt bad enough you will beg for it to be out! good luck hon.

Stop drinking soda pop if you haven't already.
Other than that, no alcohol and the other diet changes should really help!
What's your doctor say to do? I had a friend who had her gallbladder removed a couple of years ago (only age 25!!).

I dont know if polyps are the same as gall stones. I dont think so. Anyway i have polyps and there are lots of food and drink that can make me bent over in pain. Orange Juice and Coke are the worst. And someone mentioned pasta sauce (red sauce) for me. Anything carbonated will aggravate me, but not like Coke does. I"m fine with fried food as long as i dont eat alot. And alcohol, well i think i've become numb to that.

I was about 19 when i found out i had polyps. I think the doc said something about that being something to watch cause it could turn to cancer. But i may be wrong. Hell that was almost 20 years ago. Guess i'll have to goggle it now and see.

Coke really bothered me, too, before I had my gall bladder removed about 5 years ago (I was 23 ). Mostly fried foods, orange juice, and red sauces like the others mentioned really bothered me. I think a change in diet would really do you some good.

Thanks for the info, since cutting back on fatty foods I have already noticed a great difference. Soda is my addiction, I drink cans and cans of Pepsi max but that doesn't seem to trigger any pain.

Just had an ER removal of my gallbladder earlier this week...several stones
asymptomatic

Doubled over by pain that reminded me of childbirth, since I no longer have the required spot for a fetus, I thought I'd mosey on to my physician.
I'm so happy I did.
I'm not a happy camper right now but it sure beat that pain.

I just want to bump this thread up and thank everyone who has posted about gallbladders before. I've searched the entire site and read everything.

About 2 months ago I had this annoying pain just under my ribs on the right side. I didn't pay too much attention. A couple of weeks ago, again the pain. Again, I ignored it. Long standing issue I still work on, stoicism - I ignore pain.

Well, 3 days ago it happened again. Got my attention this time! I'm still hurting but nothing, absolutely nothing like it was last night! I couldn't stand up straight, bent over with my gut. I slept sitting up on the couch because it was the only position I could find that was "ok". Spouse dutifully put pillows here, there, this way and that, until I finally said "that's good" and drifted off to sleep. A vicodin helped with the pain.

I just thought I'd share what happened. I also want to tell those of you who have gone through this before, I stand before you humbled. That was some excruciating pain! Everything and anything I did crumpled me. Whew! All of you out there who have experienced this must be some tough, damn cookies!

No, I didn't go to the ER. I have personal insurance, but we have a really high deductible and it's mostly for pharmacy coverage. Neither of us are working and can barely pay the insurance in the first place.

I'll work on my diet and we'll go from there. I know the odds are high that I will go through another "attack", but maybe I can limp along until finances get better.

Yikes ((Notz))

My sister suffered through several attacks before having her gallbladder removed. She was fortunate to have insurance to cover the procedure. A dear friend of mine suffers from frequent attacks, but she can only find part-time work with no benefits. I worry so much for her because she's all by herself.

I hope and pray you'll be able to avoid any major attacks with nutrition, but I also hope and pray you will get insurance benefits before another one occurs.

I had gallstones for about four years before I finally saw a doctor about them. The attacks became more and more frequent until I was getting them practically every time I put something in my mouth. Didn't matter if it was a plate of spaghetti or a glass of water.

I had my gallbladder taken out a year and a half ago. The attacks have stopped, but I still have a lot of digestive problems because I am missing my gallbladder. Still, I think it is better to get it removed than to try and keep it. My Mum tried to keep hers and she got a stone stuck in a duct and got pancreatitis. It was horrible.

I had gall bladder attacks while I was pregnant, they couldn't do much because of that. I would eat something one day and then the next not be able to eat the same thing. It got so bad after I had my baby that I was vomiting bile. I ended up having it removed when my baby (lil buttrfli) was 2 months old. I had been in and out of the ER at least a dozen times before I demanded they take it out. I told them that I wasn't leaving until it was out. What was supposed to be an in and out procedure turned into a 4 day hospital stay. I ended up with sepsis because my gall bladder was so infected. The surgeon kept appologizing for not getting it out earlier. The problem was that my test results kept coming back normal. Glad I don't have to deal with it anymore. The one "bad" side effect of not having it is that I am now lactose intolerant.

((Notz)) - sorry to hear you're not feeling well and had so much pain. I remember my SIL when she had the attacks - they were excriciating for her. I think you should go for a check up with your doctor - maybe there's some medication he/she can give you and you need to be diagnosed.

Here's an informative website that gives natural remedies to try and you should use a heating pad next time - this calms down the contractions. Try fresh lemon squeezed in water - this also works wonders with heartburn. I've struggled with heartburn for years and never thought lemon juice would work. I figured if lemon is sour, it will makes it worse but it relieved it. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your support and I feel almost 100% better!

I'm fearful that this "attack" will happen again. I'm watching what I eat. I don't eat fried foods, eggs or potatoes except every other blue moon. I drink skim milk and I'm big on broccoli and chicken stir frys with only clear liquids, no heavy sauces. I eat brown rice and refuse to give up coffee or diet coke!.

My problem are sweets. Ever since I stopped drinking, I've replaced those sugars with new ones. Any suggestions? Other than the obvious, of course.

I just wanted to mention that gall bladder problems and celiac disease go together sometimes. Might be worth looking into for the possibility at least. There have been people on celiac com that reported they had their gall bladders removed but later found the real problem was celiac. Celiac can cause damage throughout the body, not just in the intestine. Many people don't know that, including doctors.
