I'm not a parent, but thought that this would be a great place to ask for this since it is a lot of parents. I'm starting babysitting again (something I haven't done since I was a teenager-though have worked with kids). I was wondering what the average range of pay for a grad student providing in home care for two children (almost 2 and 7) would be considered reasonable. Any insight would be helpful. Oh, it is in a small college town with a university in the mid west.

I get paid $8 an hour to babysit, I am also a grad student with experience with children, too..

I was going to ask for $9 an hour, but I sensed they would not be able to afford it, when they asked me what I wanted, in my mind I jumped back down to $9 to $8, but I am sensitive that way....

$10 is not unreasonable, either I feel..

The family I babysit for got me a WONDERFUL Christmas gift, and they tend to overpay me when the hours are not exact, all the time!!

Have a wonderful time babysitting, googley!!!!!!!!!!! I love it, too!!

depends what kind of agreement you have. We had a babysitter full time (7-4 m-f) for our two children adn she got paid $300 a week. That was high compared to some of her other offers.

Around the Orlando area, if you have no certifications in childcare, you are looking at about 100-150 a week for one child, about 150-250 for two children. That is full time, 8 hours a day, Monday through Friday. Around here it is more common to pay weekly, not hourly. Keep in mind that childcare gets cheaper as the children get older! Hope this helps!

P.s. I should have mentioned that 1) I am a parent, and 2) I am a childcare giver!

We have a babysitter who we pay 11 an hour. Western PA, small city, with a small liberal arts school. Part of the reason that we can afford that is because as part of my SSDI, my son also gets a check. We wanted him to have a few hours a week with an energetic 20 something. She had a lot of experience. Prior to working with us, she was a live in nanny for three years. She has been terrific and we are sad to be losing her. We only need her about 10 hours a week, and I told her at the beginning that she should continue to look for a full time nanny gig as I did not want her to feel like she had to stay with us. She just, very nervously, announced that she got a job with a family in Pittsburgh. Sucks, but I totally understand.

She has family here, and is going to be coming home every other week, and asked if she could come visit us. She really cares about Noah, and he loves her, so we are sad to see her go. But she was totally worth the $11 an hour. I was actually about to give her a raise. =)
