I am collecting Unemployment Insurance Benefits. Every Sunday I do the required "Weekly Certification" thing on my computer. That's where I report if I have performed any work for wages during the preceding week.

Today is Sunday. I just attempted to do it for this past week. The government website told me that I had failed to do it last Sunday and was, therefore, disqualified due to a "lapse" in reporting. I believe they are correct. Last Sunday, was chaotic for me; I believe I must have thought I did and was badly mistaken. The site gave me an opportunity to make a statement. I stated simply that I had inadvertently forgotten to "certify" last Sunday.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO ME NOW? I AM SCARED.

THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP.
Thanks for this!

I'm wondering if the site or your original application explain what happens. I wonder if you don't qualify for that week.

I hope it all turns out well.
Thanks for this!

The site told me to call a certain phone number. It said I would have to have a good reason for the "lapse." Now I have misplaced the phone number. I have been extremely nervous, lately. I expect I will either find piece of paper with the number or manage to look it up. I'll try the number tomorrow. But that's a holiday. So maybe I won't get anyone to talk to until Tuesday. I know it involves being kept on "hold" on the phone for hours sometimes. Or, that is what someone told me.

I anticipate starting a job soon. But each week the company seems to have one more thing they have to check before they can start me. The delay in starting work is making more nervous about my abilities. I felt so good when I was told they were interested. I was ready to jump in. Now I have built up more anxiety waiting. My background check came back good. Next I have to do some OSHA training on my own time. So I have no firm "start date." Meanwhile, I have been barely getting by.

Also, there is no guarantee on how many hours each week I will get.

My friend had the same problem, it was the states fault, and when he called, they got it straightened out.

Hope that happens to you as well.

I'm afraid it was my fault. I believe I did fail to certify on Sunday, October 2nd. I call that "Human Error." They might call it "grounds for terminating benefits due to negligence." I can't believe this doesn't happen from time to time to even diligent folks. I would like to believe that there is some "Mercy" in the system for a "lapse" inadvertently made during a time of high stress. I had had to bring my boyfriend to the emergency room due to his choking. He had emergency endoscopy. Other stressors were going on.

I think I have to tell myself that, if they cut off my benefits, it's not the end of the world and not a reason to start having self-destructive thinking out of despair. This is not sufficient reason to go into despair. (I am afraid of being without income, losing my apartment and becoming homeless.

I am grateful for the responses. Thank you both.

I'm really sorry that you forgot to post and now have to call in. I'm terrified of missing filing a report. Up here, I only have to do it every other Sat. for the preceeding 2 weeks. And they give you a 3 week window in which to file, you just don't get paid if you don't report. I know I got a message one time that I had to call the office because I reported that I'd been out of the country. It wasn't that bad. i was only on hold for about 30 min., and they person I talked to was nice. But I didn't get paid for the days I was out of the country.

I hope you get it all sorted out soon.

I got it all sorted out. They were nice when I got them on the phone, which took 2 days. I lost one week's check, but back on track now. Also, my benefits will last an extra week longer since I didn't collect for the week that I lapsed reporting. So the system is decently compassionate. I am very grateful. I will have my rent for november!!

Thank you all above.
Thanks for this!

So glad to hear that it got sorted out and that a check will come. Good for you for getting through and sticking with it. What a relief!
