Hoping to get some solid advice! I have struggled with depression all my life. Now I'm 47 and find, after caring for my disabled husband the past 3 years, myself with no insurance and struggling to come up with enough cash each month to stay on my meds. I have been strategically lowering doses and skipping and - it aint' cuttin' it! It's time that I feel better!! I have not worked for 3 years - blaming it on his needing me to be home for his care - but I don't think I can function in the real world yet! I struggle just to get up and do his care and keep the bare minimums to run the house!

My therapist mentioned applying for medicaid a long time ago and I thought she was nuts - ha! But can I possibly qualify for it? I know my pcd and therapist would probably back me. At least I could manage to get meds and pdoc visits paid for while I focused on my therapy and piecing my life back together.

Just needing to know it's acceptable and possible - DX is major depression, generalized anxiety, ptsd, and panic disorder

We are on a fixed income due to my husband's disability, so ALL the pressure is on me to go out and start working again if we are to recover financially and to pay for my meds. I can't even get out of bed most days!! And I rarely leave the house - not even to go to the mail box! omg...that sounds so awful when I read that!!!

Medicaid is a program that is for people that are on fixed incomes, or no income at all to get usually state run healthcare. I live in PA and have what's known as an Access card, that card is my medicaid. You may want to call your local assistance office and see if you qualify. I have an inkling you may qualify. With your husbands needs and your needs, you should qualify. I know you most likely would in PA atleast. Sorry I couldn't be of much help, however Perna is really good with insurance questions; she helped me out while I was applying for benefits myself.
