i have just gotten my disability but they say they will review my case in a year and a half. Apparently they think what I have may get better in that amount of time. The problem is what I have doesnt go away. I have never got it under control before. Meds havent had good luck with me. I just wondered if anyone ever had their disability taken away bcz they thought they got better enough to be taken off of it. It scares me that I wont be better and they will say I am good enough.

Congratulations on getting your disability! You sound just like me. Don't even have the time to enjoy the celebration 'cause I'm so worried about losing it. lol. Be Grateful..Enjoy this gift - relax for now and take some self care time just for YOU. Don't worry about next Year. A lot can happen between now and then, policies change. I have never been re-assessed, but I am constantly in treatment. I think they said it to me in the beginning & then never did. I can't remember..Just enjoy your freedom and take some time for YOU xoxoxo

The year is still technically 2012. In the summer of 2014 is when they say they will re-evaluate you. So you have a while to go. They are saying that you aren't permanently disabled and you have a chance to recover. But you don't have to if you don't want to. If they do drop you by chance and you aren't ready then you could go back on, possibly for something different or they might just extend your disability for a few more years.

Enjoy whatever peace comes to you. I know you will be fine.

(((Bridgie)))

Congratulations on being awarded disability!

I vaguely recall being told the same thing when my disability was approved, 4 years or so ago. I worried as well. One thing I've discovered since then is that I have to fill out paperwork for SSI, county assistance, and my apartment quite often. Like every 6 months - 1 year. I don't like it, but I do get assistance to help me through answering the Q's. (I become easily confused, especially when I feel stressed out.)

So far, I haven't heard anything from SS questioning my disabilities, so maybe that happens behind the scenes. Try not to worry. Focus on what you need to do to get yourself into a healthier state of mind and body. Best wishes and gentle hugs to you!

I am on SSDI. I have been advised by a counsellor to continue seeing MDs in order to confirm that the diagnoses that got SSDI awarded to me continue to be problems. That way, if continuation is questioned, I will have a trail of MD visits confirming the continuation of my psych and medical problems.

I've had my ssdi for a few years. Had a review a few months ago. Paperwork is similar to some of what you fill out to apply.

I'm on ssdi as of this year and did not hear a word from anyone regarding new assesments. Yikes.

I have been on SSDI only since July. My acceptance notification stated that my case would be reviewed in 5-7 years. However, since I do temporary work, I have been in touch with my local social security office in order to notify them that I have worked and to provide copies of my pay stubs.

I live in Australia. I have been reviewed once in 10 years. So its likely that I will be reviewed again in the near future. When it was granted I was twitchy about it being taken away. Try not to worry.

Honey everyone gets reviewed after they get disability. I was reviewed too, and I have a degenerating spine. After I had my first review, I never heard from them again and I've continued to get disability from then on.

So don't worry about it. Like I said, everyone gets reviewed. It's by phone usually, and it's no big deal. God bless and please take care. Hugs, Lee

The evaluation isn't really looking at "you," it is assessing your situation!. If you win $1,000,000 in the lottery in this period of time, guess what, the SSDI won't be "needed" anymore :-) Maybe you'll find a wealthy partner to marry who wants to shower you with all good things, make you a true joint heir to all they have (my husband and I own all our property jointly, so if he dies, I'm the "other" owner so it just stays with me and vice versa) maybe you'll discover a job/avocation you can do from home that makes good money or maybe you'll write a book about your condition, Oprah reviews it and you become an overnight wealthy author (look at J.K. Rowling's/Harry Potter's author's life), LOL; lots of things can happen in a year and a half.

However, if none of those things happen, if you are still roughly in the situation you find yourself in today (no old maid aunt dying and leaving you her home and money for its upkeep? -- I had a friend of my stepmother's whom I knew as "Aunt Martha" die and leave me $10,000 I wasn't expecting!) then nothing will change, they'll just renew it.

SSDI is based on your or someone immediately related to you's (parent/spouse) work earnings! It's not a "gift", someone paid into the system and now you get money out for that payment. But you only get it if you need it; unlike Social Security itself, if you don't need it, you wait until the proper "age" and receive your Social Security then (I'm 62 and got my first SS payment the day after Christmas :-) Usually though, disabled people can't wait until they're "retired" because they have become or have "always" been disabled.

I've had one review, and I have another one due in a few days, I am scared. I passed the first one, and this 2nd one came 7 years after the first. Definatly keep seeing your dr, I had a relapse and didn't see one from May to december. I was to paranoid to come in b/c she said something mean to me and made me cry in May. I told her about it when i just saw her and she said sorry.

Do you know how long it takes them to decide after you send in your review? I forgot!
Thanks for this!

I just wish I could stop worrying about it. I need to take this time to work on my health not stress out about things I cant control. I've been completely overwhelmed with the anxiety of it all. I want to not worry.

I just had my review a few months ago. I think it took somewhere around 2-3 agonizing months of waiting before I got my "you're still approved" letter

It's all standard procedure. Don't worry. It's more for the government to satisfy their paperwork.
