I don't know how long it takes them to decide if I am still eligible for continuing disability, I still go to a dr and therapist and get treatment. There was a lapse in my treatment from june to december because of paranoid going in to see them, my dr snapped at me and I didn't want to go back til december and I hope SSI don't hold it against me. I have bipolar, ocd and social anxiety and got disability when I was 17 (I am 29 now). I recently got the PTSD diagnosis added. So I guess that means I am worse not better. But I am still freaking worried. I am a single mom and I have to be able to provide for my son with out having the stress of a job because stress makes my symptoms worse.
Now my landlord wants me to sign a year lease (I have been here 8 years only had to sign one year lease I don't know why they are doing this now). But I don't want to sign it until I get the letter in the mail saying I get continued disability. Because if I don't, I won't be able to afford to live here, I would have to couch surf or something and don't want to be trapped in a lease on a place I can't pay for. Telling my landlady this intimidates me because I have social anxiety. So what do I do? the new lease doesn't start til may so hopefully I can sign it on may 1st and by then they would have decided? How long does it take them to decide that my disability will continue? I turned in the papers jan 14th. All my friends and family still say I have issues and that I will get it still and I shouldn't worry. My therapist said I shouldn't add anymore stress on, like a job. I worry I guess because is mental health stuff enough? The only physical stuff i have is mild tendonitis and severe menstrual cramps that last 5 days a month so I can't do anything but lay in bed. It sucks having my fate in someone else s hands. Please help me! |

Is anyone else on disability for just mental health stuff and not physical stuff?

I'm not up to date on SSDI stuff...but in general if you don't see a doctor for any part of your disability for 2 years, then you lose the claim and have to appeal it.
As for the PTSD being added, don't take it as something that now you're worse with, but that they failed to recognize it or had to wait for full documentation to add that diagnosis...or you have a smarter doctor now who understands it? I think you need to be a squeaky wheel on this... since it's time-valued. Be sure to tell your landlord what your issue is and that you are working on it, please give you time to find out. Then keep calling (daily if you can handle it) and find out who is sending the letter...even an email might suffice in case of legal needs in the future (like they tell you but then it doesn't come through.) I know everything is traumatic with PTSD at times, even when things go well. I have had my "fate" in someone else's hands since my injury in 1986... while I have more control, I am also (because of therapy) able to allow others to also have control of what they have to do and be. PS there are cheap herbs that can help with those pains... talk to a health food store person after researching online... ![]()

I was reading that mental health people are exempt from part of this law because with mental health issues people tend to not do their treatment sometimes. I was still taking my supplements that they prescribed me the whole 6 months I Didn't see them. What herbs have helped you? |

To be honest, the new Obamacare is 13,000 pages of legislation and no one knows what is truly in there!
I take ashwagandha (prescribed by MD) and holy basil to help with inflammation, and also ginger which helps with all sorts of pains from migraines to stomach upset/aches. There are more... do some research on the net and then check into the ones you think might help you. However, Biotin, D3, and Vitamin C are key basics I take as well, MD prescribed. Of course valerian root (330+mg), passion flower, scullcap are great for calming and sleep...camomile in any form as well.
