I am on disability SSDI from having Schizoaffective bipolar type. Mine is usually considered lifetime permanent disability, because it affects my ability to cope and work.
If, under the ACA, I get married after 2014 and together we gross under $50,000/yr with her and my income combined, will I stay on Medicaid (keep in mind the expansion of Medicaid)? I'm expecting I will be able to stay on it and just pay a higher spenddown pay in amount. Does this sound right? Also, just to note, she has her own employer's insurance and is covered. __________________ schizoaffective bipolar type Lithium, Trazodone, Klonopin, Abilify, Zoloft Last edited by hartbroken; Oct 10, 2013 at 04:15 PM.. |

SSDI comes with Medicare, SSI with Medicaid. However, if one is on SSDI, it takes 2 years to become eligible for Medicare (and one may be eligible for Medicaid in the interim) and if one is receiving both SSDI and SSI, whether one receives Medicare or Medicaid is more complicated.
I would talk with your Social Security office to understand if there will be any change in your insurance status should you marry. SSDI and Medicare should not be as changeable since it is based on your Social Security benefits that have been paid for and are individually yours versus just disability needs based on income from you and a spouse together. __________________ "Never give a sword to a man who can't dance." ~Confucius |

This is a difficult question to answer, it would be best to ask social security admin.
Depending where you live and your pre existing conditions, which would put YOU in harm of being disenrolled from medicaid after marriage. __________________ Happiedasiy, Selfworth growing in my garden |
