My food benefits abruptly ended on the 31st of October, because my case worker at the time wanted me to prove my liquid assets, and that was only because I tried applying for Medicaid and got denied. I did provide proof, but I guess it just wasn't good enough for her. So I had to do a whole new application for food benefits, which then took two weeks to get a phone interview and to hardly live without much food. I finally got the interview this past Tuesday with a whole new case worker. She wasn't very friendly and wanted to argue with me about the fact that I could have gotten unemployment when I was let go from Walmart. I told her that I did try and was denied for that, but she still wanted to argue. We finally moved on to trying to get my food benefits back and she asked the usual questions. I told her I work at Dollar General, she asked me what the exact date was, but I couldn't think right that minute. She then said that it's showing in her records that I worked at Party City after Walmart, she asked when that was, I told her it was in the middle of September, but it was only for a week or two, because they had me scheduled for one day a week.

She then wanted to argue about that, because I guess Party City didn't communicate with them about me working there until October 15th, that's the day they said I started there. I kept telling her no and I could tell she was getting frustrated with me. I couldn't remember the exact date until after the phone interview, which was from September 22nd to October 3rd, and then I left there to take the job at Dollar General. I'm not sure where she is getting October 15th from at all.

Finally the conversation ended and I felt kind of relieved. I have a problem with anxiety and she really wasn't helping. Made me wish to have my old case worker again, she was nice and made me feel comfortable when talking to her.

I got the forms in the mail today, but it was only three envelopes. One was a voter registration, the other was an employment verification form, and the last one was me getting approved for food benefits and how much I will be getting (which they already put on my bridge card). Didn't make much sense to me, they want me to provide proofs, but they already approved me and gave me the food money, which they didn't do when I first applied back in February. Anyway, the employment verification form was a bit confusing, because she wants me to verify Party City, it actually says that on the top of the form. I have to have them fill it out, but since I don't work there anymore, and it's 45 minutes away, I'm not sure how to have them do that. Shouldn't they want me to verify employment with Dollar General instead? Since that is where I am currently working.

I logged onto the website and they want me to provide proofs on there also. They want me to prove that my checking account is closed, which I sent them a photo of the statement I got from the bank, but they also want me to provide proofs of wages and loss of employment. So I'm just a bit confused. I want to call my case worker, but I really don't want the third degree again.

So what exactly should I do? I will probably call her, since everything is a bit confusing, because they want information from Party City. I only ever got one check from them and I am not sure if they would still have my information in their files.

I'm confused to, but my one piece of advice is to call Party City before you go all that way- it may be that only the store manager or HR person can fill out that paper.

Party City, while short employment is reported to the govt' and to unemployment, so you have to report it, whether it was an hour, a day, or a week etc. They have to research why you left etc. sorry...it's just how it is. I know the frustration though. I was let go by an employer in August and have yet to receive unemployment benefits and I stopped filing for them after I was full time at a new job; so now they just dropped the case all together. It's all crazy stuff, and not even a govt' program.

It will be easier, to keep paystubs, for future. They do cross reference DOR. Had strange one, this past 6 month verification period. DOR has an employer from three years ago, in 3rd quarter this year. I said, i only have my one employer,,she said she'd keep an eye on it.

When they see the dor screen(know this fact from working for unemployment), they see employer quarter and wages as XXXXXX. When unemployment files claims, then they get actual numbers. Dta, doesn't, i don't think, hence pulling stubs. Social security sees wages. Hmmm, bizarre, to realize how much easier life would be for everyone. Because behind those xxxxx's, can also be $0.00.

Yes, I kept pay stubs so I can verify W-2's for taxes, remember periods of when I worked somewhere, etc. Maybe you should start a file for everything, put stuff all together like your closed bank account statement, etc. At this point, it being so confusing, I'd find where the closest office is and go in and talk to someone face-to-face and come up with a plan so you know exactly what they want now. It could be that forms and monies, etc. have crossed in the mail, I know for my health insurance that often happens and I get dunning letters after I have paid, etc. because the humans are slower then their computers at figuring out what is what.
