I've been given dr samples of Latuda for quite a few months now. Maybe 7. I can't seem to find a psychiatrist to go to. I've come off it now but my dr doesn't know. Will this affect my ODSP in some sort of non compliance thing? My gp refuses to touch my meds and I really can't Stand the side effects any more.

Adespota, I'm not sure. Can you ask your caseworker or your doctor? If you cannot cope with the side-effects, that is a legitimate reason for going off a medication. You may need to try another medication. I'm sorry I cannot be more helpful.

I'm on ODSP and have not always taken medication. It never affected my benefits.

I'm not in Canada, but I know something about what keeps people from being charged with non-compliance with medical treatment, wherever they happen to be. Get it documented that you cannot tolerate the Latuda, due to side effects. That means talking to a doctor about it. No program can mandate that you take any medication that is adversely affecting you, but you need a paper trail to substantiate that. Programs look askance at people who are trying to act as their own physicians.
A doctor will tell you to stop taking a medication that is having unreasonably troubling side affects. Then you can stop, without being non-compliant. Sometimes you have to repeatedly complain to doctors before they will get it that the med is doing more harm than good. But, eventually, they do have to listen. |
