The funny thing is, everything was working out ok in the insurance dept. until I got SSI. I am in Upstate NY and had CDPHP, which was an EXCELLENT insurance plan. Once I got SSI, all my mental health care was transferred to straight Medicaid. I have been trying for months to find a psychiatrist or PhD psychologist that takes Medicaid. May as well try to find an honest man in Congress. They just don't exist!! It has been several months since I have cut, but the suicidal thoughts are getting to a rather bothersome level. Does anyone know of a resource that lists Drs. who take Medicaid???? I have scoured the www, but no luck.
Starting to feel like I'm running out of time.

ps. Daughter is getting married next Sunday, to a guy I really don't like. MAJOR STRESSER!!! I promised myself...no saw blades 'till after the wedding.

Hello David866, Hang in there. There must be one somewhere. Are you on any medication? I would ask around. Sorry I am not much help, but just wanted you to know you are not alone. I understand what you are going though with your daughter getting married. Mine did the same thing a few years ago and I didn't like him much either. But now I am living with them and he has kinda grown on me. I still don't like some of the things he does but I suppose it could be worse. Please take care of yourself.

Thanks. Luckily I don't take meds. after 20 years of experimenting with almost every one on the planet, my doctors gave up. Treatment resistance, they call it. So that's not a concern. As far as the search, I'm banging my head against a wall, both figuratively and literally. Luckily I have a hard head.

Thank you!! I think I got some pretty good leads from this sight. I wonder, since I called my local Medicaid office SEVERAL times...WHY THEY NEVER TOLD ME ABOUT THEIR OWN FRIGGIN' WEB SITE!! Bureaucracies. Lot of phone calls to make in the morning.

My husband is on SSI. I spent hours and hours calling and checking websites. Then stumbled across that. It has greatly helped us and now that my dad is on Medicare we can find him doctors too.

I can't believe that they don't give people the website address when they get signed up for Medicaid or Medicare. It is extremely frustrating. I'm glad I could help

I'm wondering if there is some private health coverage plan that administers Medicaid benefits in your area. (I'm thinking of something similar to how Advantage Plans administer Medicare for individuals who join these plans.)

A plan like that most likely would have to have specialists in every area, including psychiatry, for its members.

Have you tried asking your primary care provider to refer you to someone?
