My bipolar and Central Auditory Processing Disorder make work difficult. Go in and out of debilitating depressions. Have been denied two times for disability. Got a lawyer and I am appealing. Any one get disability? How much do people get a month in CT? I hope to work at least part time some day soon.

Your benefit will be based on your work and earning history, there is no across the board amount , that would mean someone working minimun wage would receive the same as someone that made double or triple more. What you have paid in over the years plays the main part in what you can expect.

There is no standard amount. You can go to your local Social security office and they can give you a pretty good idea of what you may receive if your awarded disability.

I do know if you are on SSI I think that program caps out at about 770.00 a month...

They do a "weighted average" of what you made over the years that you were old enough to work, and that gets related to what you paid into in Social Security taxes and what your employer paid in for you. Any year that you didn't work brings down your benefit amount. However, any time that you didn't work from the date of the onset of your disability is not counted against your benefit.

When you apply for SSDI, you are also applying for SSI. You may get one or the other, or both. If you get a very low amount for SSDI, you might get some SSI.

Here's some info on SSI:

"Everyone on SSI disability (Supplemental Security Income) is eligible for the same base amount, $733. But your actual monthly SSI payment will depend on whether you have any countable income, whether you are married . . . . . . . While the federal benefit rate is the same through the United States, many states add a "state supplemental payment" onto the federal benefit. The payment varies from $10 to $200, depending on the state."

770? those liars....I was under the impression the 733 dollars a month I was getting was the absolute maximum. Well hell if it really is 770 perhaps after I move which will happen soon unless it falls through I can get that since I will be paying more rent than I am now at my moms.

To the OP: I am on SSI, first time I applied I got denied and did not bother appealing and then after things with trying to find work and attend college fell through I applied again and got denied...so I got an attorney and appealed and was approved. That took I think about a year for the whole process, I personally think having the attorney helped immensly in my case at least.
