Just wondering if any of you have suggestions for saving money on retirement income. I have my Social Security and my pension from teaching, nothing else. At the end of the month, I seem to always be at $0. I've actually cut way back on any outside activities, but that means pretty much being a hermit.

Do any of you experience this? If so, what is your advice?

You might want to go to the library and see what books there might be helpful for retirees. I like Suze Orman. She seems to have solid financial suggestions and maybe she has something. If you aren't already doing this, tracking your expenses each month can be enlightening. Just stopping for a soda at a convenience store everyday (I used to do this) adds up over a month's time.

I don't know if you are able to or interested in part-time employment but if you are tapped out on what you can save on the spending side, then generating some income is another idea. At some point a reverse mortgage might make sense if you own a home - would have to check that out.
Thanks for this!

I found this article extremely helpful and saved/bookmarked it several years ago: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/24/yo...?emc=eta1&_r=0

I have always like the idea of joining/creating a food co-op (pretty much a West Coast idea though?) or getting together with others to save money using joint buying power. Do you know other people on fixed incomes that you can form a club or something with, share ideas and resources?
