I recently was divorced and used my ex-wifes ins as primary and medicaid as secondary. When the divorce was final I couldn't use that ins. I had 2 drs appts and told them this when checking in no problems. I went to get a refill on my alprazolam they said they couldn't do a refill because my medicaid ins said they had to bill the other ins first. I called medicaid and they updated it. Still 2 days later no change. I ran out of my meds. The cost is$16.00 am I legally able to get my meds by paying for them myself?

Yes. I've done it several times before. Just tell them you need the med and don't care about the insurance, you'll just pay for it.

I tried this at 3:00pm. I said I would come and get my medication refill and pay out of pocket. They said my ins won't allow me to do that. Then a miracle happened she said I just ran it again and it went through it will be ready in 15 min.

That is so weird. Must be a state law difference or something. I know I've even done this with a benzo that was taking forever to get approved and I got fed up and just gave them their $9. But I'm glad it worked out in the end.

Sadly , I have to pay for ALL my meds out of pocket , sometimes I must go without , but that does not help my anxiety at all.

Keyplayer, I have a few resources that helped me with meds when I didn't have insurance. Maybe one of these can help you.

1) www.goodrx.com gives you all the prices for meds and any coupons available at different pharmacies in your location.
2) Rx Outreach | Patient Assistance Program, Discount Prescription Drugs provides meds are really low costs. Sometimes I could get a 90 day supply for less than a 30 day supply from the pharmacy.
3) www.xubec.com is similar to rxoutreach. I never used it but it's there.
4) patient assistance programs for meds that aren't generic. If you don't fully meet requirements write a letter explaining you still need the help and why. They've never denied me and I've done this quite a few times over 5 years.

A medication I took was not covered by my insurance but the manufacturer offered a massive coupon on the website. Always google the drug first to see if there are any rebates or coupons you can use.
Thanks for this!
