I had to be taken by ambulance on Valentine's Day to get surgery for a perforated ulcer and had a 6 day stay in the hospital. OMG, it looks like we are going to have to pay the hospital over $3,800 dollars in bills! We don't have that kind of money lying around. Plus, there is still the $900 ambulance ride. We definitely don't have money to pay. I guess I'll be setting up a payment plan with the hospital. Our health insurance sucks They really need to give school teachers better health insurance (along with higher pay for all the work they have to do).

Thanks for this!

We are in the same boat, with a very high deductible.

Teachers in my area are paid well and have excellent benefits. I am sorry the same is not offered to your husband/family.

I have posted to you before (in your ambulance thread, I believe) about inquiring into the financial aid available through the hospital's billing office. This is federal monies available to people who do not qualify for other types of aid and fall through the cracks. Many people assume they do not qualify when, if they apply, they find out they do qualify. Your very high deductible may help you to qualify. If interested, just call the billing office and tell them you want to apply for financial aid. I hope this will help you out. (I've suggested this to 2 families lately and they have lower deductibles than yours. They have gotten aid through the hospital, even though they'd failed to qualify for aid through countless other programs.)

I hope this will help you/your family, too.
I have lots of medical bills every year. It is a major financial stressor.
My heart goes out to you/yours.

Does the hospital offer financial assistance? I've gotten financial assistance for all my hospital bills.
