I'm really in a mess. Ruins my plans, goals, etc. I knew better and still got sucked in. Still kind of involved, and don't know how to stop it from happening.

I put a stop to it. I'm feeling somewhat better, not 100%, but better.

I know how you feel. Unfortunately it happens to the best of us. Nowadays the scammers are more sophisticated that very intelligent people can get taken. It's hard to talk about what happened because other people can make you feel stupid, but at the same time, you need to get it off your chest.

I felt like I got scammed recently. It's a horrible feeling. What had happened to me recently, other people said that I got careless. This happened at where I live.

I hope you can feel better about your self soon. I know how it feels because I had been losing sleep over what had happened to me.

Will19 is right, it can happen to anyone and it sucks when it does. The important thing is that you realized what was going on and got yourself out.

Here's what happened. I got a message from a semi famous person on Instagram. Mike Holmes, but it wasn't Mike Holmes. He showed interest in me and offered to pay off my credit cards. He obtained access to my account. Sent in a fake payment than when that payment posted he recharged all the debt maxing out the card that was supposedly just paid off. Then they payment bounced, found out it was called an unauthorized payment, which technically can get me in trouble.

I changed my password, cancelled my cards, there were two under the same account. But now I have a bigger debt to pay off.

I am so sorry that you were victimized in such a terrible way. The scamming that is so common these days is appalling. Please try not to feel embarrassed! So many people are hooked into scams.

Scammers are VILE SCUMBAGS, and what I would like done to them would have you all questioning my mental state. I HATE them. Don't be embarrassed. I have them calling here all the time. The reason I have never fallen for it is because I am in general a hateful, suspicious, mistrusting person in the first place. (Serves me well in this instance, I guess.) Don't feel bad about it, just go through the proper channels and fix it.

Have you filed a police report? What he did is fraud.

Yeah, I wonder if you could get the fraudulent debt removed if you filed a police report? That sucks, for sure.

i was scammed to the tune of 2800 usd about 3 yrs ago. I actually sent this loser that much money. He told me he loved me and all that crap that i ate right up. When i went to send this money western union the lady at walmart tried so hard to talk me out of it. But i said no i have to he needs me. What a load of crap, he kept trying to get me to send more but i had no more to send and he started pressuring me to ask family for money or take out loans , he said if i loved him i would help. Thats when i said if you loved me you would stop pressuring me for money. Then i blocked him and changed my skype name and thankfully he never got access to any of my accounts.
i did a search and he was using a name of a guy who was a retired general in the US army but this guy wouldn't ever let me hear his voice and he was in Syria.
I still hurt from that , mostly that i was taken so easily.
be strong , tams

I've been scammed in the past. I fell for the microsoft partner scam when it first started going around, and then I got scammed in an on;line venture, that one cost me 10K.

Now I ask how likely is this to be real

Does the IRS/Revenue Canada use calls threatening a fraud investigation, when they specify all their communication is in writing?

Does Microsoft care about me as an individual? Not likely.

Why would a stranger offer to pay off my debts?

It's easy to get sucked in, especially when we're already vulnerable.

You do need to get the police involved, IMO. That was a felony on the part of the scammers.

I was scammed too. Police told me it’s very common and happens to the best of them. It happens to people when they vulnerable. Scammers pray on people in vulnerable situations. Make sure police is involved. It will be hard to prove anything or find the person but at least there is a record of it. Talk to your cards, you might not be liable for new debt as it wasn’t you who used the cards

I see it’s old thread, don’t know why it popped up as new post

A friend of mine, who is articulate and successful (he's even an officer in the reserves) was scammed out of somehing like $5000. He thought he was paying to buy a used car from someone offering a really good deal online.
