Hi Everyone,
I am currently on Brand Name Lexapro (I can't take the generic because it doesn't work for me and I am allergic to one of the innactive ingredients). My insurance plan barely covers it. My doctor tried to get an authorization for a price reduction to no avail. I currently pay $329 a month for this necassary medication. I am hoping to find a new insurance plan, but for now I am stuck with this one. I was told misinformation about this plan covering my medication once my deductable was met prior to siging up. Now i'm told that this is not the case. Anyone here in the US have a plan that covers Brand Name Lexapro? I'm also thinking of trying to join a medication assistance program but I know that most of them require you not to have any type of insurance to qualify. Any suggestions? |

Patient assistance programs grant exemptions for having insurance if you can't afford their med. I have a couple of meds I get that way. I just fill out the application and enclose a note explaining that I have insurance but the med costs more than I can reasonably manage on my income. I have never been denied for a med I've applied for this way. I currently get patient assitance for 3 meds and all are exemptions. It may be more difficult when you are asking for a brand name when generics exist but a note from your pdoc should take care of that.

Hi Ravengreen. Welcome to Psych Central. I am sorry you have to pay so much for Lexapro brand.
Some manufacturers will off you product at a reduced rate. Lexapro - Generic Vs Name Brand? You can call insurers or visit their websites. No insurer will usually pay all of the costs of a medicine. The only way I know is to reach out to them.

I am not 100% certain but I think Lexapro and Citalipram are very similar. Here where I am the brand would be 1/3 the cost of what you are paying and you might happen that your insurance might kick in.
I have also used Good Rx and Blink with good success. Hope this helps!
