I'm just wondering if it would be okay to have my nails done like this and it not be that weird.
http://www.selectnails.com/DSCN1124.JPG http://www.lovethispic.com/uploaded_...-Tip-Nails.png http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...r7HysZQ7dbdZRN Or is there another way I can have them done? I'd really like to be able to have them painted some way and be able to go to school with them. Just, not black. Not yet at least. Eventually I'll be able to go out in public with dark colors or shades. Anyway, thank you in advance everyone!

you can do whatever you want as long as you don't care what people think of you. it depends what you are going for I think. if you are wanting a more feminine look, the first look is the way to go. the longer nails with the square tips are very feminine I think. the last pic you posted, the shorter nails with the rounded tips is the more masculine of the three. I think the shorter you go, the more masculine it will look. as for the shape, just going with the shape of your natural nail would be sufficient. I have always just bought a eggshell white nail polish, not the shocking liquid paper white used in French manicures, and done the tips of my own nails and painted over with clear. it is softer look but still stands out. you could start with that.

I use clear nail hardener. Where I live, if I don't, in the winter my nails break & the chip off. Also I'm an amateur autoharp player. So, if anyone asks me about my nails being polished, I can just say that it's to keep them from breaking & messing up my playing technique, which is actually true... it's just not the whole story...

I don't think the shape of the tips matter I think the longer they are the more feminine they seem

Personally I wouldn't go longer than the nails in the third picture you posted

Every school is different, so I can't really give any good insights... But I will say that people should do what they want without being judged or the fear of being judged. And if one is to be judged, the judge should be judged poorly for judging... That makes sence right? XD
My honest thoughts, it really should be ok! But I wouldn't say you won't be judged... Depending on where you live and what kind of people are there.

Ok, here's what I think (it's pretty much in line with what the others have said
![]() As for the styles - personally I think dark painted but somewhat shorter nails (max. length like in the last pic) are more unisex (like a very dark purple) than longer and done in the way shown in the pictures. But let's face it, I don't know much about painting or painted nails ![]() Have you considered getting your toe nails done? |

Hi again LittleBlackStar: Hope your weekend is treating you well. With regard to nails, I keep mine about 3/16's of an inch long. They have been as much as a quarter of an inch or so. Mine are kind-of halfway between rounded & squared off, I would say.
One thing to consider is the longer your nails get, the more they will get in the way when you're doing certain things. For example, when mine start getting longer, I start having more difficulty hitting the keys cleanly on my computer. Also I find, if they get too long they impede my autoharp playing ability. Consequently I don't like to let them get too long because then they start to be in the way. So I think, as you let yours grow, you can determine for yourself at what point they begin to become more of an inconvenience than they are worth. Also, one other point: my understanding is: squared-off nails are stronger than rounded ones. I've also read that squared-off nails are considered to be more feminine. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Years of systematized oppression and gendering through media has taught us that makeup is for girls and not boys. That having your nails done is also just a girl thing, and not for men (metrosexual that odd word). If you think your nails would look awesome a certain way, go for it because really if we continue gendering certain aspects of the gender umbrella a lot of people ask questions like you.
I don't think it would be a bad move to follow your gut on how you want them to be.

Some words of wisdom from a friend's son (aged 5 or 6 at the time I think): a girl told him he couldn't use her lipstick because "lipstick is for girls". He responded "that's bs, lipstick is for lips"

I agree somewhat. However, make up shouldn't be needed for any human. The reason why many women age worse then men is because of all the poisons in cosmetics ruining their skin. Make up of any sort is unnatural. |

I think it depends on what your overall style is. If it's quite feminine, it will look fine. If your style is very "manly" or "sportsy", it might look weird and maybe you should go for some black or dark tones instead. (just like it would look bit off on a sportsy girl or girl whose overall style is not fancy
