Let me start by saying that I feel extraordinarily guilty being in this forum. Please forgive my intrusion. I am hoping that you folks can see past my reason for being here and accept the feelings that brought me here. I ran into a problem yesterday that I don't know what to do about and I can't think of a group of people who might understand the issue as well as you folks here.
I have dissociative identity disorder, otherwise known as multiple personality disorder. There are five of us in our system and we are considered very high functioning. Very little comes up that we can't handle and we pass as 'normal' easily. One of the personalities is Sonseearae, a six year old girl. The fact that she's trapped in this 52 year old man's body is a problem that we've learned to deal with pretty well but... Yesterday she heard a message she had left on an answering machine and she heard her voice from an external source for the first time. When she speaks, she 'hears' herself completely differently than the 'old man' she heard on the machine and she is as traumatized as I've ever seen her. She doesn't want to talk any longer. I don't know what to say, don't know how to make this better for her...I'm lost. If anyone can offer some words of wisdom, please do. Thank you.

Does she understand what DID is and that she's part of a system?I imagine that would be hard for a 6 year old to understand but maybe there's a way you can explain it to her?

![]() Anyway, I suppose the most traumatic thing was that she hears herself differently when she speaks. She hears her voice as she imagines it to be. It was a rare, coveted piece of physical identity...and now it's gone.

Would explain the limitations of the body (being 52 years old and biologically male and therefore elderly male voice) help? And explaining dysphoria in simple terms?
