Hello.

For the last few months I have been experiencing occasional lower back pain. I am almost sure that this is caused by too much wrong type of sitting (doing a PhD). I don't know if this is connected, but two days ago I started noticing the pain in my testicle, almost exclusively while sitting. Longer I sit, more it hurts but when i stand up it almost immediately vanishes. I have not noticed any other kind of oddities (but I am no expert - i do not do regular check ups). Since I am not in my home country it is highly inconvenient for me to see a doctor. However, I cannot evaluate how serious could this be. Any opinion on this? Sounds like something usual? How urgent it is to see a doctor? Should I try something by myself?

I would be greatly thankful if somebody could advise me on this!

The only time I have issues like that is due to certain pairs of underwear. The combination of sitting and something odd about that certain pair can cause a throbbing pain for me.

But, the back pain could very well be related. I wonder if you don't have a kidney infection. That system is connected and I wonder if the pain from your back might be triggering the pain your testicle. You might try cranberry juice for a while and see if that helps?

Well the first thing is to make sure that it isn't a twisted testicle, because that can be dangerous. However it seems that has it is not an acute situation, so likely the pain is caused by some other issue.

I did want to weigh in that I have had lower back pain from herniated disks for almost 15 years. At the same time, I have had increasing pain in my testicles, sometimes to the point of being debilitating. I have seen GPS, urologists, and even surgeons. I have had my penis and testicles imaged at least 6 times. The only thing they ever found was two hernias. The hernias were repaired expecting the pain to go away...and no....it didn't.

The fact is...I have always linked my testicle pain to my LBP. I know there's no direct link, but in that area of the body all the muscles used to keep a human body upright have to work together and if they aren't working right in the back, that can out a strain elsewhere.

In the past I found an interesting medical article which actually looked into this and did prove a linkage. I'll see if I can find it and post a link.

I think that Webgoji may have a point with the underwear. Change yours for something loose or perhaps even go commando. My pain has gotten to the point that I rarely, if ever, wear any because of the pressure points and discomfort.

Good luck. Just to let you know you aren't alone and ways you could work around the pain.

Something easy to try, use a different chair, even if it's not a comfortable, if a different chair isn't an option try a cushion or a towel on the seat, just to change up your sitting position a bit. But I wouldn't ignore your pain.
