Hi... I recently met a guy who is a self-professed hedonist and I'm curious if there is a possible link between NPD and hedonism. He has several traits of NPD such as constantly needing to be the center of attention, often brags about things especially his popularity and how he is the type of person that draws a crowd and everyone wants to be around him and talk to him. He then claims that he doesn't necessarily DO anything for attention and actually prefers to blend in but he can't because of his popularity. He told me a girl he dated compared him to a celebrity by saying she felt like she was dating one.
Over the course of about a week, he sent me close to 100 pictures of himself, most of which were shirtless and posing in some sort of provocative way. The reason I want to know if hedonism is linked to NPD is simply because I want to know what exactly I'm dealing with. I have dated narcissists before and absolutely do not want to get involved with one again. If anyone knows I would really appreciate your answers. Either way I am leaning toward NOT getting involved any further with this person but still, my curiosity about the psychology of these two things is peaked. I myself have BPD so I would never judge anyone with a personality disorder. I'm just interested in learning more. Thank you so much! |

I don't believe there is any real connection or link from hedonism which is basically just a belief that pleasure or happiness is the most important goal in life. Narcissist is totally different and centers around self, and to do whatever is necessary to achieve what's best for self. That does not always translate in to true pleasure or happiness, or at least happiness. Otherwise why not link hedonism to sadists too?
