I would imagine pwBPD in general are far more difficult patients than NPD.

Welcome to all the new ones here glad to see everyone responding!!! On a serious note if you have any questions feel free to ask. This forum is pretty great at keeping the ones who do not belong out(Unlike many other places). I know that many of these disorders go hand in hand as if my PDoc really knew my thoughts I am sure I would have other labels as well. So with N traits I will be happy to share my thoughts and insight but do know at times my ways of expressing may not be the same. But again welcome aboard to the new faces, hello to the passer by's and to the elders as well.

Thank you waggie but I meant I like to remind myself I don't fit in (relate) really with people who have NPD. (Although I must admit to doing a little studying in the hopes of working out what my pdoc may have seen.)
Sometimes I think I can maybe see something there but for the most part I don't think I have anymore narcissistic traits than your average BPD. Besides, most of the articles you read make a big deal of everyone have narcissistic traits and yet those people aren't diagnosed. I demand all people now be labelled with narcissistic traits! lol I know I certainly had a moment when I realized all these other people were absolutely horrified at the thought of NPD while in comparison my reaction was to get angry and declare my pdoc an idiot lol To be fair that little add on did come after a less than ideal session which is why I think he was just being a d***. I remember reading in a thread somewhere written by 'victims' of PD's where a large percentage of them said they would take a NPD partner over a BPD because at least the NPD can pretend to be normal while the BPD is all crazy all the time. I know I have been difficult. Am pretty certain I may have semi traumatized one T. ![]() |

I think there is a huge difference between people with full-blown NPD and people with some NPD traits. I have exhibited all of the NPD traits at one time or other... But, I also want relationships, and I've attempted suicide (over 20 years ago), and it appears that those two things are atypical for NPD's.
Sometimes, it appears I've developed some NPD traits, as a reaction against some experiences. I even recall people telling me I needed to have more self-confidence and that I should care less about what people said..So, perhaps it's their fault I'm like this, now.. lol. Although, I don't remember ever feeling compassion for others, either. I still remember the boy in the wheelchair in kindergarten. I was jealous of him, because he had a cool chair, and he got special attention. But, perhaps I'm being too hard on myself. I'm married, and my wife has been through some tough times, and I care about her.... I'd like to be just a person with BPD traits, but my T got into my head with his suggestion that I have NPD traits. I did have a very crappy childhood, with a cruel mother... I don't remember anything good about her. |

My dad shows what I can only assume are some NPD traits. When talking to him, you get the sense that he thinks he is the smartest person he knows. I remember him talking at a funeral about what he learned at college. You got the idea that he was talking about his top-notch college degree. My dad went to fundamentalist Christian college for 2 years in the 1960's, and didn't even get a degree.

Never dxes Narcissistic but i see it.
"Gentle Narcisista" Type. PTSD Major depression ADD Borderline traits Gifted traits (my IQ is higher than hours). I'm taller than men and more compassionate than God. F50 (I look 38) I'd like to achieve healthy narcissism. My parents were successful narcissists and am the opposite the gentle nebbish who ended up in a glass coffin used as a coffee table. But sometimes I remember who I am! |

I may or may not be fun! I was just trying to assess how deeply insecure you must be about your intelligence... First to stake your ground with a gifted label. Then, upon inquiry, you throw around a few $5 words to prove it. I'm just practicing compassion & offering my hand to someone who may be in need!
