I don't get it.. many of you obviously take pride in the certainty that you are "real" narcissists. I'm not a narcissist... I'm just a person who has some narcissistic traits.. My T may be trying to convince me that I am a "real" narcissist.. but, he's probably wrong... he's been wrong about other things...
anyway.. here is your chance to sell it to me... what's so great about being a "real"narcissist? Why would I want to be one? Last edited by shakespeare47; Sep 10, 2014 at 12:56 PM. |

I didn't know it was an a la carte option. Maybe I should reconsider.

Because if you own up to the fact that that's who or rather what you are, you have the opportunity to change it. It's not going to happen overnight, but small victories make for large strides in the long haul. Plus, to a lesser extent, it's an explanation (or excuse depending on your point of view) for our behavior.

Yes..it's always best to be honest and who one is, and the problems one faces.

I'm not convinced I'm a "real" narcissist. ASPD with narcissistic traits -- but they don't really give you that option, so I just sum it up as NPD. The semantics aren't really important to me. And I'd rather take pride in the valuable aspects of who I am rather than a collection of letters given to me by a psychologist. That's just me.
