My Ex wife once told me I had NPD. I thought about and realized she may be right. I think for me it's a way of masking past traumas in my life. I have never been open about incidents of being Bullied in school, which I think caused PTSD. I mask my feelings of inferiority by acting the opposite and I know I'm not better than most. This is the first I've ever told anyone I've been bullied.

I know a member here that has changed her life for the better through therapy for her NPD.

Are you happy as you are? If not, a therapist specilazed in NPD may help you.

Hello Inneedofanewlife: The Skeezyks was also bullied in school for years both verbally & physically. Everyone, including my parents, knew what was happening. But nobody did anything. At one point, one of the bullies caught me on the school bus & proceeded to beat me up, breaking my nose in the process. I got blamed for it.

I also have never been open about what happened to me. And, when I was younger, I also masked feelings of inferiority by acting the opposite. Now that I'm an older person, I simply keep to myself. I no longer want to have anything to do with anyone, if I can avoid it.

The Skeezyks isn't knowledgeable with regard to mental health diagnoses / conditions. But, from my perspective, I don't think that putting up an air of superiority, in order to mask past abuse, makes one a narcissist. I think it simply means that you protected yourself in the only way you knew how...

What exactly is it about yourself that you see as "inferior", and why?
