I waste so much time reformatting things and rearranging the wording of sentences. Often when I have a paper due I can't get past the first few sentences because they aren't concise enough for my liking or because one word looks out of place (but doesn't sound it). With a pen and paper I find it easier to keep going once you start.
Does anyone else experience this? I don't think I have OCD, but this seemed the best place to post. I'm the same with emails, sometimes text messages. I find myself redrafting messages and wasting a lot of time. Usually I give up on whatever the task is. Leading to pissed off friends and tutors. It's why I hardly ever post. I've started writing my essays by hand and typing them up but this is a really inefficient use of my time. I'm quite concerned with things being efficient. Do you think this is the only solution. I try not indulge in these things (redrafting etc.) but it happens b4 i realise it. I'm not gonna proof read this or I will be here all day! Thanks everyone ![]() ![]()

If I'm actually writing (as in, a story, article or other form of professional writing), I have a tendency to rewrite things in different ways, but that's part of editing. However, I question my choices: Does this sound better, or was the other way better? This sentence is too long, so how do I shorten it? And so forth.
I do have OCD, and it affects my writing in that I overdo things sometimes. I've gotten better at it, but I also sometimes type and re-type things over and over.

I have the oppersite problem sort of I obsess and everything spills out on to papper or the comp I find it hard to edit my thoughts and in turn that makes it hard to edit my final work cause when I read it back it does not even make sence to me anymore. I get off topic real easy and I muddle it all up and miss letters , mix up letter, only wrote the first leter of the word you name I proberly do it....I failed english in high school due to obsessing I was told to put the full stop in when I breath that did not make sence to me as my thought went really fast and I would ramble with out taking regular breaths.
My T recently told that I need to learn how to breath more normally cause he noticed I was breathing shallow and irregularly and that is proberly why so many things cause me anxiety cause my body is so cloes to fright fight flight already. learning to breath better will take my brain out F F F. I did it again i got off topic but to me it felt like the topic while I was writing it. lol I'm no where near as bad I use to be thank goodness. |
