Since I was initially diagnosed with OCD and Major depression I have trialed a whole swag of medications ranging from some with chronic adverse reactions to some with absolutely no affect at all. However the only one medication(and in amongst others for other issues which i have been on for a long time) my therapist keeps reverting to is a high dose of Zoloft which I have to admit it dampens some of my more "lame" compulsions(approx 10-15% of them which is better than none) but with honesty not much impact with my depression. I have been off and and on this medication numerous times to sample others but I have recently been put back on to it and my concern is that I can't control my hunger which keeps me awake also. Now I have never been a big eater due to my depression which a lot of times suppresses my hunger.Although ,I eat sensible as I also have a peptic stomach ulcer. Not to sound overly harsh that zoloft is contributing to my hunger I have noticed this behaviour other times I was taking it.Weight gain to a certain extent doesn't bother me as much any more but my concern is for the arthritis that I have to live with which I may have possibly genetically inherited. Could anybody shed some light on this matter whether its the med doing this or perhaps I may be overlooking another health issue I may not be aware of.Thanking you kindly.

I noticed when I was taking Zoloft I was hungry a lot especially at night. I have since stopped taking it and the hunger has eased. I was glad to see your post and to see that I am not the only one who has this issue. I never had this problem with paxil but it stopped working for me. I hate OCD.

Hmm...That's weird you say that. I was on & off Zoloft many times as well. I found it made me feel like complete crap every time. Bad headaches and opposite of you guys, I couldn't eat. I too, don't eat very much because of my depression (once a day on a good day). But when I took Zoloft a few weeks ago for a few days, I didn't eat for the 3 or 4 days which caused me to drop 10 lbs. I concur with Coko...I HATE the side effects, which is why I don't take anything (as of right now).
You should talk to the person who prescribed you with it and tell them you want a medication change. Especially if it doesn't seem to be helping much. I've heard Lexapro was good from a friend. Have you tried that?

Zoloft was the first drug I was put on, for "depression" (I'm BP II, ADD, OCD) and I gained like 20 lbs.
Have you had your thyroid ever checked out? I found out 2 yrs ago that I had hypothyroidism, and since I've been taking meds for that I've been less hungry. |
