Hey Isabella.
![]() You definitely didn't give yourself OCD. But that case of severe gastroenteritis probably did trigger you to begin compulsive actions in order to prevent future occurrence of any illness. The fact that your mom has OCD as well probably means that you had it all along within you, genetically, but something had to happen first in order to trigger it. And then the ball kept rolling... It could also be a combination of nature/nurture. Did your mom ever perform compulsions in front of you as a child, or tell you about any obsessions? I definitely think if a parent has OCD, they can influence their child to have OCD-like symptoms. Are you receiving any help for your OCD? I know how tough and debilitating it can be, and therapy has helped me LOTS. Feel free to send me a message if you ever want to chat! |
