Hey guys.
I was just wondering if it is normal for ocd patients to obsess over body marks (freckles, beauty marks, moles, birth marks, etc...). I have two freckles that bug me soo much I feel hhorribly uncomfortable about them. Kind of like the feeling you get when you have to wear a turtle neck when you dont like turtle necks lol. I feel like I just want to kill my self over a stupid freckle. I constatley pick at them but every one tells me not to because they will give me cancer and all that. I just want them gone. Also, the way I look... I absolutley hate getting hair cuts. My hair is my security blanket. I sort of gre my hari a little longer and finnaly said forget it and chopped it off. For the last few days I keep obsessing over how I should'nt have cut it off and how I hate my hair. I fee like a piece of me is lost. I also get like this over clothing and I absolutley can not stand not shaving. I hate the fact that I have to shave but I get depressed if I don;t shave that day. I just have been thinking about this.

According to a book I was reading, there's a comorbidity factor between OCD and body dysmorphic disorder. That may or may not help explain things. I used to be the exact same way about when I had to get a haircut, but now my body obsessions tend to focus on my weight. No matter how little I weigh I always see fat in the wrong places for a guy when I look in the mirror. I know I can't ever have a "perfect" body, but it's a struggle to stop obsessing over the little things.

I made a similar thread recently about my obsession with my appearance. it's quite a long thread, but there might be some answers in there for you. I am getting an official diagnosis of BDD when I see my therapist next, but there is some information in the thread on the symptoms and most common parts people with BDD obsess about-
http://forums.psychcentral.com/showthread.php?t=143188 I hope that gives you some answers or ideas, and that you can see from the comments that you aren't alone in feeling the way you do. And I'm TOTALLY feeling you with the hair. |
