I was wondering if anyone else that has trichotillamania ever has the urges to pull other peoples hair out? I do when I'm rubbing my fingers through my girlfriends hair and I see a thick coarse one I want to pull it so bad but I don't so I just start to pull mine out instead. Its a major trigger for me but she enjoys me doing that but I really don't like to cause the urges are so strong sometimes:-(

I haven't experienced that. For me, it really is only my hair that I want to pull.....

However, I do want to brush my boyfriend's hair quite often (not because it's messy) - his is extremely long while mine is a short pixie cut. It's a weird impulse that sometimes I want to brush his hair, or at least run my fingers through it....And I almost feel it could be a related tendency because some experts theorize that trich is the result of grooming tendencies gone haywire from our genes.

Perhaps you need to tell your friend you can't do that to her hair anymore because it triggers you, if she's a good friend she'll understand

I don't have trichotillomania I I have dermotillomania and omg I see spots on others and want to pick their skin sooo bad. I had a girlfriend once who asked me to pop a few zits but I couldn't stop. I kept asking her if I could pick more. When we made out my fingers went right to her spots. Needless to say she dumped me, lol. In other words I guess fight the urge now, because it wont get easier and no one wants someone else obsessing on their body.

Yes. But there is much more control. I usually dont. Urge isnt strong to mess with his hair.Unless my fiance says its okay. I wouldnt want to hurt him.

Same here, I sit there in the evenings and hubby just sees the restlessness in me starting until I finally say " Can I get a look at your back ? " .... Even the dog knows, the minute we switch thr sitting room light on the dog gets up and jumps into hubby's chair knowing he is going to sit between my legs.

I have learned to show restraint where DS is concerned as he has many milk spots on his face and I have tried to squeeze them for him a few times. starting when he was about 5, but he protests that it hurts so I leave him alone and just try not to focus on the spots on his face.

But I also used to pull the hairs out of his back using tweezers. I had his entire back clear of them at one point and when they would start growing back I'd be almost digging them out making him bleed. He put a stop to that fairly quickly.
