Just wondering if anyone has tried hypnotherapy for any part of their OCD ?

The thing that exhausts and frustrates me the most in that damned music in my head. There really is only so much of Miley Cyrus and Cheryl cole one girl can take. Especially when that girl is a certified rock chick !

I have looked into this up down and sideways ( what else does one with OCD do lol ) and I have come across multiple OCD'ers who have experienced this music / rhymes etc repeated over and over in their head.

My PDoc called it musical Hallucinosis and told me there is no 'Cure' so I got to wondering. a) if me singing/hearing songs in my head is maybe some kind of coping mechanism. Like maybe its one part of my brain trying to distract the other from intrusive thoughts, ( Coincidentally the only time the music AND intrusive thoughts stop is when I am listening to music on my ipod or stereo )

and b) if hypnotherapy could be used to eliminate said musical thoughts.

anyone else experience this and manage to get it under control ?

I suffer from Purely obsessional OCD just FYI

Do you mean "musical ear syndrome" ? Is that the same thing or is it something different?

My PDoc referred to it as Musical Hallucinosis but I actually think that is the same as Musical Ear which is I believe a form of tinnitus where you hear music externally.

What I have is a song or another playing in my head over and over, it changes depending on outside influences ... for example I could have ( as I do now ) the theme tune to a bond movie going through my head. Now I don't really know the tune so it's only the bits that I do played over and over again on repeat, and I could be reading something and see the words "All I want for christmas " and instantly it changes to all I want for christmas is my two front teeth or all i want for christmas is you. Now in the case of the bond movie I can hear it as its played, so its the actually singer and the orchestra its not my voice. where as I dont really know the song all I want for christmas so that will play in what I think is my 'inside' voice. ... does any of this make sense ??

I have No control over what is playing, it changes depending on what I see or hear. and it isnt limited to songs.

If I see a bunch of blackbirds that usually invokes the nursery rhyme " four and twenty blackbirds " over and over. Or failing that it can be a conversation I just had with someone.

I have noticed if I am walking anywhere on my own its at its worst and if I met someone on a street and have a conversation, the whole way home that conversation will play over and over again in my head.

It is utterly and totally exhausting

I have that also, only when I hear music, I start daydreaming about something that is beyond my imagination.

Whenever I do hear music playing in my head, I try my best to concentrate on something else. Focusing directly using senses. Mostly my eyes and ears. My doc said try and use all of your 5 senses and concentrate deeply if they distract you. Feel the weight of your body, smell the aroma in the air, etc.

Sounds like what is commonly called 'earworms'. I have mild OCD, but sometimes the earworms get worse when I'm stressed or anxious or attempting to think hard on something.

I've had a few suggestions that occassionally help. Play White Noise/Nature Sounds at night and attempt to focus on that to to relax. I got a 20 hour one from the iTunes Store so it can play all night. Doesn't personally work for me during the day. Also, I try to only focus moderately on something. Mildly tough puzzles are recommended. If I attempt to focus or think to hard theybstart again.

Some try to replace them by playing another song that will cause an earworm.

You have my sympathies!

I haven't tried it, but I know from reading and talking to experts that it can be a very effective method. However, like hypnosis, it can potentially work only on a specific subset of patients.

I have this earworm thing. I was recently dx with ocd.
I thought it had to do with my schizoaffective, because every time it happened it seemed to trigger audio hallucinations of other sorts. Maybe it deal with both disorders?
Either way, I'm glad I found this thread because I couldn't find the right words to explain it to my t, and now I do!

hello,

I have been hearing music 5 years. Doctors say different things about the cause. Is there anyone who find solution for it?

Please let me know.

I just started having this problem.

I have had tinnitus forever and I mostly ignore it. I experience tinnitus as sounds in my ear, high notes, low notes, sometimes my ear mimics a ringing phone. But I understand these are sounds in my ear.

I’m hearing reoccurring hearing bass sounds. These are different than tinnitus because, I swear, the bass sounds sound like they are coming from next door, or from someone playing their music too loud in their car. These are sounds *away* from me.

For the longest time I thought the bass sounds were neighbors playing music too loud. I even stepped outside to try to find the source, but gave up. My daughter visited me but she couldn’t hear it. I can even feel the vibrations of the bass sounds through the floor! I dismissed it as neighbors playing music.

Last week I sat in my therapist’s waiting room waiting for our session when I realized I could still hear the bass! I was shocked! Im not one one to experience hallucinations, so I was worried! T is the one who told me about musical ear syndrome. She wants me to make an appointment with my ENT and let her examine me.

I am 63 now but I have had hearing difficulties ever since I was a kid. My hearing has worsened as I get older. Supposedly, the brain is trying to fill in the void of the sounds my ear is missing...and it comes out as musical notes- bass notes in my case.

Any one here with musical ear syndrome: are you hard of hearing, too?

I'm not OCD that I'm aware of, nor been tested for hearing loss but I do have these songs and clips that I hear that switch around depending on what I'm doing. Random noises. I do get ringing ears a lot. Conversation replays. Stuff like that. Weird!!
