In 1992 I was having delusions and obsessions about religion. I ended up in the hospital, and they diagnosed me with OCD. They put me on anafranil to control the obsessions. Seven years later I had another episode, this time a psychotic episode with manic/depressive symptoms also. They diagnosed me with schizoaffective, but they took me off of anafranil and now they don't deal directly with my OCD. I am having OCD symptoms, but they won't treat me for it. I don't understand why the doctor took me off of anafranil during the second visit, or at least why he won't put me on something now.

I obsess over sexual issues, religion, and I worry and have excessive anxiety all the time. I can't hold a job because the anxiety is so great.

When I'm doing well, which is about 10% of the time, I can step back and realize what is really going on. I have schizoaffective and OCD.

I'm on Abilify and lithium for my schizoaffective, along with Cymbalta and Trazodone and Klonopin. We've tried SSRI's with Abilify but nothing seemed to work at that time. I know some OCD patients are treated with SSRI's. Since they didn't work, why can't the doctor put me on Anafranil again? What harm would it be to try?

Hello, hartbroke. Print copies of your post for your treatment team. Ask why Anafranil, with its proven track record, is not a medication option.
