hi everyone,

for a while i've been dealing with obsessive negative thoughts which are generally triggered by reminders of certain girls that i've had issues with recently (i.e. they were mean to me/they dislike me and it makes me feel really bad about myself.)

lately what i have been trying to do in order to deal with this mental anguish is avoiding them completely whenever i can -- in particular not looking at their social media sites.

however it has been really really hard for me to resist the urge to look at their sites even though i know that looking at them will make me feel bad.

i'm so sick and tired of being so bothered by these people in my own head. if anyone has an idea of what might be causing this or what i could do to fix the problem i would really appreciate your insight!

Hello, cato11. Make your well-being the top priority. Delete the sites (or, at least the accounts) of those who bother you. Work on eliminating negative self-talk: How to Challenge Negative Self Talk: 7 Steps (with Pictures) Identify a goal you have been putting off. Create a plan for taking manageable steps to reach the goal.

I wish you well.
Thanks for this!

I agree with glok. This isn't related to my OCD, but I had a few people on FB that really got under my skin and I found myself getting stressed out/frustrated about things they would post. I kept them as "friends" because a small part of me wanted to still be able to see their page, etc., but since I have unfriended them, I have felt SO much better.

Removing the negativity does wonders.
Thanks for this!

I suppose the most practical thing to keep in mind is that you reap no good from looking at these sites or involving yourself with these people. So perhaps use it as useful reminder of what you want to change in your own life. There are a lot of possibilities for friendship and work now. You don't have to conform. If you live your life for you, you'll attract the right sort of people. Best of luck.
Thanks for this!

I agree to that as well its been in fact I really feel like going through my fb page and doing that kind of thing is a great thing for me to do. If people on there are negative for you then you don't need them.

My main issue is that a lot of the people i have in my life that are overly negative and not good for me to have in my life are people in my family as well as people....that don't have FB and I have found that cutting such people off is not as easy a thing to do as say just a friend that has gone bad.
