I've been on Zoloft for almost two weeks now. I'd previously taken Prozac, which was effective for a while, but I (stupidly) stopped taking it after it wasn't helping as much as it had before, and also because I wasn't a fan of the sexual side effects. My psychiatrist decided to put me on the new meds hoping they would work better and not affect my libido as much.
So here I am now, and it seems as if my symptoms have actually gotten WORSE. My compulsions have become even harder to resist performing, and a lot of the old intrusive thoughts and fears I thought I'd long gotten rid of are starting to come back. What gives?! At least my sex drive hasn't nosedived, but I can't even focus on bumping uglies with my boo with all of the stress from this. I guess my main question is, how long am I supposed to wait before declaring the Zoloft experiment a failure and switching to a different medication? Is it supposed to take this long before taking effect? Will increasing my dose help any? (I'm increasing weekly until I'm at 100 mg -- I'm at 50 right now.) Is it supposed to get worse before it gets better?! HELP! |

Hi Evee. It took me close to 6 months to level out on Zoloft, but it worked for over 6 years with no sexual or other side effects. I recall the first month being a "zoloft zombie".. Give it a bit more time because it is a good med if it works. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

I have been on zoloft for 4 months....I started at 50 mg and I saw a noticeable difference in my anxiety around week 6, and then the anxiety just came back and turned from a mild case of OCD to a moderate/severe case of it (I upped my dose to 100mg, but that hasnt helped much).....I don't blame the zoloft, as it did help with my anxiety at first but it has tapered off....I start cognitive behavioral therapy next week and I am hoping that helps. I would give the zoloft a good 8 weeks and then re-evaluate....hope you get better!
