Hi, just to start off I am a Catholic. For the past couple of months I have suffered from horrible intrusive, blasphemous, and unwanted thoughts, which I already know is OCD. But one thing that concerns me, is that sometimes when i wake up it feels like I have lost my faith in God and Jesus. A couple months ago, I had the strongest faith in Jesus, but now I have very very little faith. It almost seems as if my brain just forgets about Jesus. My faith in God usual stays, but today it seemed as if it was gone. My intrusive thoughts also lead to doubts which causes my faith to be effected too, but idk why when i wake up my faith is gone. I keep praying and sometimes i get a little "faith boost" you could call it but it usually only lasts that night. I gained a lot of faith before having intrusive thoughts so now I don't remember what its like to have just normal faith without intrusive thoughts. Have you ever heard of this before? I saw online that one symptom of religious OCD was the feeling of God being far away or abandoned you, I guess it kind of feels like that only my brain seems to lose faith almost completely. Any advice? Thank you

Hello,
Great for posting your feelings and thoughts it really helps.

It sounds like you have some troubles within your life and mind right now.

They sound as if you are distressed about the changes in your logical, mental, and general thought process.

From what you've written which I am sure is just a snippet. I would not say you're really exhibiting OCD.

What's happening is you're doubting your faith, this happens to all religious people from time to time, consciously or subconsciously.

I used to be a belieber in God and Jesus. These days I tend not to be at all.

When you doubt your faith in anything, if it's God or even a trust in a friend, doubt yourself or many other things for that matter it could be anything.

It could cause you to feel distressed, maybe anxious.
I'm afraid there's not much you can do medically apart from medication.

That all depends on the doctor you see, and how much they think anxiety and distress is effecting your life.

This is just my opinion nothing else.

I hope you feel good soon, and your mind allows you some rest and relief about what you do or don't think, believe or choose anymore.

Take Care
J

Thank you, I guess you're right about doubting my faith. But my OCD is what caused me to do that. These intrusive thoughts are from OCD and that makes me doubt everything. Thank you

I have intrusive thoughts related to religion too, I know how scary they are. Hope that you find someone also in real life that can give you some help. You are not alone, we understand your struggle
