Hello,
I was suffering from anxiety and depression recently. Developed cardiophobia recently doing some surfing on internet i found there is some research group called heartmath they claim heart has its own brain and thinking capabilities. I don't know about you but this thought has distorted my facts upside down. I was literally started changing my mind to positive until i discovered heartmath. Now i have few questions if you can guys can help me sort it out. 1 : If heart involves in thinking process does it also mean we are not mentally depressed and we are heartily depressed too or anxiety or depression related medications are just in vein ? 2 : What happens when someone has heart transplant does his thinking also changes or may be memories ? 3 : Medical science and previous heart related research that says heart is just a blood pump was just gone to dustbin and all those medications that people use? 4 : People with heart disease will always be depressed or anxious or lose their minds ? 5 : During open heart surgery there is a machine backing up heart function. 6 : If heart is in control of our emotions. How can we change our mind to live better lives ? 7 : If heart really thinks people with mental disorders can't feel hearts thinking ? 8 : Where does originally emotions generate from brain or heart ? 9 : People during heart attack lacks these heartily thinking's ? These thoughts are freaking me out ..... Can anyone help me or whats your view about heart as another brain or how it works ? These thoughts are making me mentally sick or o wait heartily sick ? I would really appreciate your guys response on this. |

The heart is a muscle. It does not think. It may be best for you to stop surfing the net for info on illnesses. Some people are suggestible and may cause themselves unnecessary anxiety.

I get the gist of this post. I also suffer from GAD and depression. I can only help by stating how I think my heart helps my depression and anxiety. I am a very spiritual person and I use many tools to help my depression and GAD to include
Eating right......brain help here. Supplements ( omega 3's) .....brain help here Meditation...spiritual help here and warms my heart. Being social.....warms my heart....gives me hope. I guess what I am saying is I believe that we are more than just our mind (Brain) We are spiritual (directly affects my mood) ... higher power We are physical (directly affects my mood) . ...nutrician We are a brain (thinking directly affects my mood)...training our thoughts I can't be scientific here. I just know what has helped me. ![]() |

The heart does not necessarily think in the manner that the brain does, but your overall mental state does impact how your body in general responds to disease and stress. This would include your heart.

I'm pretty sure mubilogic is speaking of the heart literally... anatomically. It might be better if we don't confuse the issue and make things more complicated for him/her.
