My mom has OCD. I think I might have gotten OCD from her. I obsess about germs and dirt. Everything has to be symmetrical. I also get disturbing thoughts about all the evil people living in the world. Does OCD run in families? I started having OCD symptoms at a very young age.

I have read that it can run in families and researchers have discovered the genetic marker linked to OCD. OCD runs on both sides of my family. Hoarding is on both sides and then an additional relative was a compulsive cleaner.

I think my family is almost proof that OCD runs in families. My father was extremely perfectionist (he probably had never even heard of OCD, but we siblings think he had it). Both of my sisters and I have OCD, but it manifests itself in different ways for each of us (except that we're all perfectionists).

I don't understand what you mean by marrying into it.

From thefreedictionary.com:

marry into something
to become a part of a family or a fortune by marriage.
