It seems like it should be since my OCD causes very much anxiety. Why isn't OCD an anxiety disorder?

I know they moved it into its own category with other related disorders. I think they moved it so other disorders related to OCD would be patched with it. Like skin-picking and hair-pulling were under impulse control I think. I think there must have been obsessed with their hair or skin and had the compulsion to pick or pull at it. I think anyways.

There is still anxiety to it of course, but it relates to other conditions that might not have the same level of anxiety? I looked it up on Google and found nothing answering this question and I looked in the DSM-V and nothing came up either.

Sorry this wasn't much help. I tried though.

OCD is an anxiety disorder I am not sure who told you it wasn't but they were wrong if however you are asking in the context of why it isn't in the anxiety disorders forum then my guess would be so more people see it and as someone else said to group related disorders with it.

Actually, it's not anymore. It was in the DSM-IV but not in the DSM-V. This is pretty new (2013) so it's understandable that many people don't know this. You can find more by looking it in the DSM-V.

I don't know. I looked up Australian DSM-V and this link came up. You have to log in and have a password to check the changes, but if you look up DSM-V pdf online, you'll find a free version of the DSM.

I know a lot of things haven't changed to the new DSM standards because it's new. One of the main things changed was the whole autism thing to make it a spectrum and not separate categories. Everyone will still say if they have Aspergers or autistic disorder but now it's just called autism spectrum disorder or ASD.

Sorry, this probably sounds bad. I'm just saying there is a new DSM-V out that states OCD isn't an anxiety disorder anymore but its own category. I just took the first link from Google about the DSM-V in Australia so.

Anyways, I'm just stating what the new DSM is saying. You can look it up yourself if you want.

Yeah, it is separated in the new DSM. I actually just looked at the DSM-V the other day. But I still think it's an anxiety disorder...much like I think they shouldn't have changed it to autism spectrum (should have kept Asperger's). But there were some other changes that I do agree with, so I'm not totally anti-new DSM.
