Hello. I really hate it when people say how someone who wants certain objects straight has OCD. Yes, if they can't work or function unless something is done a particular order or straightened perfectly, but most of the time, people just make it seem like a small thing. Like everyone has it. It really angers me People undermining OCD. I have OCD and I'm sure other people here too know that it's not just "that poster isn't straight, I must fix it" type of thing. It's more time consuming. Unless that person literally spends their days roaming stores, malls, wherever to straighten signs, even though they could be working (if you do this, I am sorry if this wasn't a good thing to say), then ya, that's OCD. It's not a personality perk. Maybe it is wrong of me to be angered at this, but I am. People are so.... mean about it. Anyways, that's my rant on society.

It's understandable to be mad about that. I have OCD, and I have heard comments about it nearly my entire life (even from my own mother), that I find jaw-dropping, or just plain infuriating. It's unfortunate that some people in society are uneducated about mental illnesses. I wish you well.

That's it in a nutshell. People without experience are ignorant. If it's a subject I know something about I don't pay those kinds of people any mind. If I find I do get angry I look in myself to see what button of mine they are pushing with their ignorance. Usually I am uncertain about myself and how I feel about me which is the problem. Other people shouldn't have to boost your feelings about yourself and if you "really" struggle/have OCD or whatever. You either know you are working hard to help yourself or you maybe are not sure and need the reminder to identify areas where you could do better.

Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is not about perfectionism. It entails obsessions (recurrent and intrusive thoughts) and compulsions (repetitive behaviors performed to alleviate the anxiety stemming from the obsessions). Despite the stereotype, nothing about this diagnosis requires perfectionistic tendencies.

Obsessive compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) however does entail pervasive pattern of preoccupation with orderliness and perfectionism.
Note: These are two distinct diagnoses.

Best wishes..
Thanks for this!

No, I know that. I'm jus saying the public doesn't seem to. I have OCD that's not about perfectionism. Obsessive thoughts and contamination is my main OCD things at the moment.

I'm not sure about OCPD in me anymore.

Thanks for the response People undermining OCD.

When I hear someone say stuff like that I ask if they get intrusve thoughts? When they ask, I explain. They do not joke again with me.
