Has anyone had success with meds other than luvox or annafranil, my ocd gets worse when on them and I experience all sorts of side effects so I have been taken off of them
My mind keeps getting stuck and I have to repeat thoughts in my head to try and act sane,I cannot go out in public without feeling overwhelmed and am having a panic attack, I feel as though I'm at the end and there is no hope Sent from my LGMS631 using Tapatalk |

There IS hope!!! I believe there is always hope. There are several SSRI drugs that can treat OCD. I did well on both Paxil and Zoloft. They took away my obsessive thoughts and intrusive thoughts. One thing to note is that SSRI drugs should be a higher dose for someone with OCD than someone with depression. So you may need to gradually work your way to a higher dose with the assistance of your doctor. You may also want to ask your doctor about taking a benzo drug (such as Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, etc.) as needed for the anxiety/panic. They can be a lifesaver.
Until your doctor can figure out the medication side, are you taking good care of yourself? Regular, healthy meals, plenty of sleep, exercise, and socialization? There are some things you CAN do to help yourself. Some studies show that vigorous aerobic exercise can be as effective as an antidepressant. Try to keep a regular schedule of activities if you aren't currently working. One more thing: my psychiatrist told me to take an OTC supplement called NAC (n-acetyl cysteine- sp??), which is an amino acid that can help obsessive thoughts. I can notice a difference if I forget to take it. He told me I can take it up to 3 times a day when I'm obsessing more. Best wishes, and I hope things get better for you really soon! |

Luvox was awful for me too. I tried Prozac before and it helped some, but not as much as I would have liked, plus I had some weight gain that happened around the time I started increasing the dose, so I got off of that too. My new pdoc had had me on Lexapro and Buspar and I've seen a huge improvement. There are still plenty of other medications you can try. Don't give up hope!

Hello. I am currently on Lexapro, and I don't seem to have as many obsessions as before, but it did take some time to work. I have read information that Paxil is used commonly for OCD, but I heard this one has one of the most side-effects, so be warned.
