OK so most times I don't have OCD-like symptoms that really interfere with my life but sometimes I do. And by interfere I mean things like not working, eating, sleeping, going to school, etc.
Mostly I seem to be obsessive or ruminative but I don't know if these are the same things, or if they are symptoms of my other disorders. (The diagnoses I have that I'm working with are Complex PTSD, Other Specified Dissociative Disorder-1, Depression, and ADHD.) I do have some compulsions such as touching things/tapping, rubbing until my skin is raw, or visiting the same websites again and again. (The worst was one day about a month ago where I was 'locked in a pattern' for 18 hours). But again, I don't know if these are maybe symptoms of my other disorders. While I know the behaviors are problematic part of me also finds them pleasurable, and I don't think this is typical for OCD. Because my OCD-like symptoms aren't consistent I'm thinking they might be related to Complex PTSD or Other Specified Dissociative Disorder-1 (i.e., me or a fragment trying to process trauma or withdraw/avoidance symptoms). Or perhaps some of my OCD-like symptoms are ADHD related. At any rate I need tools to address these symptoms because when they are present they can really derail me. (After having a pretty good month I missed school yesterday and today because of symptoms!) I haven't really seen descriptions of obsessions/rumination online and I don't know if being GENERALLY obsessive/ruminative/getting caught on thoughts or in thought loops is consistent with OCD. My specific obsessions lately are mental health focused. I also haven't seen visiting the same websites looking for new information described as a type of OCD compulsion. So I guess I'm just wondering if some of what I've described is similar to how some people on this forum experience OCD. If I have OCD I think I'll have to address stabilizing Other Specified Dissociative Disorder-1 and Complex PTSD in therapy first, but if there are meds I could take that would help stabilize my OCD-like symptoms I'd like to have access to them! |

Not sure what might be causing what you are referring to. I recognise having some compulsions and visiting the same websites over and over again or listening to the same music. I also tend to spend a lot of time looking for shirts, playing games or looking up all about psychology themes, it could be an obsession, it's not to me, but it is to my surroundings, for me it is calming, but sometimes it can lead to forgetting to eat in time or sleep in time and it's not always the best thing when you are exhausted already. I am not diagnosed as OCD however and I cannot tell you if it may be part of it.
I wonder if perhaps it could have something to do with the ADHD you wrote about. Look up ADHD and hyperfocus, it might give some clues.
