Hello, my name is Jacob. Recently, I have been having second thoughts about my career choice. I barely graduated from my undergrad with a B.S. Natural Resources (almost dropped out) and just dropped out of my M.S. program because of severe anxiety and depression. I know I am smart (I do well in most classes I take), but it's the doubt and difficulty I have in making decisions that gets me.
At this point in my life, I am considering a change in career paths as to find one that suits my characteristics and traits (not just one that fits my interests) as someone who has OCD. Currently I am working a temp-job as a machine operator. I am also considering the possibility of getting a Pharmacy Technician certificate as I think "counting pills, maintaining a clean work space, and customer service skills" seem fitting for someone with OCD. Thoughts? |

There is a book I like to recommend with regard to these sorts of concerns. It is: Let Your Life Speak: Listening for the Voice of Vocation by Parker J. Palmer, Jossey-Bass, 2000. Palmer writes: "Before you tell your life what you intend to do with it, listen for what it intends to do with you. Before you tell your life what truths and values you have decided to live up to, let your life tell you what truths you embody, what values you represent." (Pg. 3) It is an inspirational & thoroughly wonderful little book. I could not recommend it more highly...
